And warm. No freezes yet.

get ready to fertilize citrus mid-feb

don't fertilize or water mango this time of year.

rye grass is kicking it with mild temps and daily drizzle.

However, don't count on the recent rain to be enough for broad leaf tropicals. If they droop, shoot them with some water.

It was a very dry fall. Since Hurricane Matthew it has been below average. Some spots have gotten good rain. but, barrier islands haven't. At least not enough to grow plants that like it wet.

Anybody else got any tips or questions for this time of year?

Been a great year for me citrus wise. Feasting on red navels, limes, grapefruit. Hamlin orange tree is drooping with fruit just about ready to peak. Got a coconut that bloomed for the first time. Cant wait for some nutz! And a new addition, Meyer lemon, will go in the ground in about a month or so. Manzana and ice-cream banana havent slowed down at all. Helli's all looking lush and green. They are usually ragged and torn this time of year. Even annuals like periwinkle think its spring and have not died off. Yay for mild winter and wet, surf-filled January!

I ate my last tangerine yesterday. My dancy was flooded with fruit this year.

My jaboticaba are currently fruiting. and look to bust in a secondary flowering soon.

More rain this saturday morning. Yeah!

Hey Dave, can you elaborate on not fertilizing mango this time of year? I have a couple trees and always like to pick up any local input. Thanks!

Sure. Mango like to be dry this time of year. This is the time of year they are in bloom. Fertilizing could make them abort flowering if they receive nitrogen.

Thanks for the info. I definitely did not know that. My Tebow is doing great with flowers and tiny fruit. I would have been one unhappy fella if I messed up the fruit production.

It has been wet here on the beach, across the rivers to the mainland ...not so much. Just saw this morning that even melbourne is behind in rainfall a good bit. I guess all those showers we have been getting on the beach have been falling apart before they get there.

Hoping for some rain this evening! (jan 22). I just picked all my jaboticaba and they are small for this batch due to recent drought. One is getting ready to flower heavy again. Glad to see my jaboitciaba recover from Matthew.

That was a dump last night! Glad I didn't get the big blow! That system was a little scary.

Maybe some rain this weekend...but colder...

from NWS Melbourne Wx Discussion Friday morning:

Weekend...A series of northern stream short wave troughs will carve
out a larger, more amplified trough over the eastern half of the
CONUS through this weekend, with its axis reaching the longitude of
Florida by 12Z Monday. Post-FROPA cold air advection will produce
below normal temps (for a change) on Sat. The cold front will stall
across south FL then a strongly divergent flow in the right rear
quadrant of a 150-170 kt upper jet streak will induce a weak wave of
surface low pressure along the stalled boundary. This will set up an
overrunning light rain event for Saturday Night/Sunday. Expect
thickening clouds/increasing rain chances Saturday night into
Sunday. MOS has had categorical POPs for one of these two periods
the last two model runs, so have bumped up previous rain chances
to likely, across the north Sat night and across the south on
Sunday.

It will be a cold rain (for east central Florida) with temps Sat
night in the 40s. Sunday will be cool and damp, even raw for
Florida, with overcast skies and on and off showers especially in
the morning. Some drier air should move into northern sections
(north of Orlando) during Sunday afternoon but a high overcast
should keep skies cloudy.

Awake with a noisy roof.  Rain.  Forecast isn't for very much, but right now it sounds good.

Yes, like the rain. Even though it is cool out. Good time to bust out the heavy yard work you planned all year! No sweating today!

Got about 1/4 inch of rain this morning. Enough to wake the rye up.

My thermometer read 49F in the backyard. coordinates with Patrick reading which is directly 2 miles to the East of me. My oak must have kept that extra F in the yard.

They are predicting a pretty decent rain happening for Brevard starting Wednesday on into Thursday.
Hope it holds true.
