A mail order nursery was having a sale, so I ordered more rain lilies. They've been proliferating in the front yard bed and put on two or three day shows after major rain storms in summer. Anyway, I added a supposedly zone 9b Hosta plantaginea plant to the order. Unlike most hostas, this one is said to not need winter cooling, so should make it here. Hostas, which are Chinese, have become popular garden plants in the northeast and northwest in recent years, coming in various shapes and sizes. Someone's even marketing "sun hosta" plants for Florida. I got one at Walmart. Short version, Hostas are precisely the sort of more northern plants that we can do without--there's lots of more interesting Texas, Mexico, Caribbean, Central American, and native Florida plants (lots of natives) that thrive here but the Carolina people can only envy. But anyway, here's the big guy that came via UPS today:
