I live in satellite beach and the ground is sandy.  I like the Hass Avacado too.  Does anyone have a recommendation for an Avacado tree at the location that is like the Hass texture and flavor

Brogdon is your best bet. Salt is your biggest enemy. Make sure your irrigation doesn't hit the leaves and maybe plant it in a protected location from wind and salty sea breeze.

One of the best local fruit tree nurseries is Twigs and Berries. It's a little drive (Titusville), but you'll find the highest quality fruit trees there. Steve was once the president of the local tropical fruit club. Knowledgeable laid back guy.

How far off the beach are you?

Good Luck, I live close to the beach and every Avacado tree planted has died, I hope you are blocks aways from A1A or I would not even try.

I'm 1000 ft off beach and have extremely salty irrigation. I've resorted to growing them from seeds of choice Florida varieties (specifically reds) in my nursery. I get them up to about 5 to 7 gallon pots and about an inch in diameter (usually between 4 and 8 ft tall). I then nanny plant them with bananas in more sheltered locations. If you think you can just put one out in the middle of your lawn, you are mistaken...or really lucky if you do and it works. A friend of mine says he knows where one is planted like that and doing really well. My experience is also death and destruction, but I've been able to keep 3 of them alive lately and they seem to be doing well by having to compete for light with the bananas, but you also have to make sure the banana suckers don't mature (i.e. remove the suckers with a long blade shovel and pot up to plant elsewhere).

I live off of Desoto between A1A and south Patrick.  I am really closer to south Patrick though.  I probably live just over 1 mile from the beach

Thanks

I'd give it a shot. Don't let your irrigation hit the leaves, and try to protect it from constant wind. Good luck.

Knights

I'm nearby
I planted a "Bacon" and a "Winter Mexican" last year, both are growing well.

Are there any fruit trees that do well in sandy soil close to the beach? I'm about 200 steps from the beach and would like to plant a fruit tree or two, but not if it's going to require much attention.
