This fairly dark red amayrllis with a trunpet-shaped flower seems to be a staple of old yards, the sort of amaryllis that self-propagates by seed and grows into large clumps if left alone. The cultivated variety seems to be 'voodoo.' Mine came from a native plant nursery in Lake Worth.

Nice. I use to have some of those scattered thru the yard. I haven't seen them flower in awhile. I wonder if a critter ate them.

My backyard amaryllises (different variety) have disappeared as shade increases. |

Another 'voodoo' and a flowering Billbergia bromeliad, both with a flash I picked up for cheap. I've thought of getting a more powerful flash for surfing/skim photos at South Beach shorebreak when there's something other than optimal afternoon lighting. Odd idea, something you couldn't do in Brevard.
