About 50 of them. They are very large and produce a a 3 foot orange flower.

We've been wanting to plant a bunch of bromeliads in our front yard.  Do you mind if we take them all? Do we need to dig them up, or are they already out of ground?

I think luvbeach has the right idea.  Bromeliads are great yard plants!

In that spirit, anyone in the Vero area wanting big orange-leaved sun bromeliads (Aechmea blanchetiana), I could use help with thinning the herd.  I'm unable to use my right shoulder for at least a couple more weeks, so haven't done any yard work.  Fair number of other broms available, too. PM me for address.

For those farther south, Heathcote Gardens in Ft. Pierce has been cleaning up the Palm Walk area, removing Boston fern (a pest) and other ferns, replacing them with lots of nice bromeliads donated by a homeowner who's moving to a smaller place.  I don't yet have a photo of the latest.

That's no gentleman; that's my husband.  ;-)

He got a pretty good sized load this afternoon but says that there appeared to be more left.  It's hard to tell because they're buried in the large pile of yard waste.  They were difficult to pull out of the pile but the effort was worth it.  Most of them are banged up on the outside from being in the pile but they've trimmed up nicely.  These are a large green leafed variety.

Palm_Grower, we are indebted.  Thanks so much!

Bromeliad leaves aren't fazed by being trimmed with scissors.  Being banged up is also no problem--a happy brom will grow plenty of new leaves.

WW do you have any plans to come up this way anytime soon? I'd love to foster some pups.

I'm hoping to be able to drive after April 25, when I see the doc.  Of course that means things will be flat, flat, flat until the end of May, when I'm going far away, so there'll be a surprise swell, probably from a powerful, long-lasting storm south of Bermuda.  Then back to flatness until mid October.
