About 0.9 at our airport. Rain started in the morning, on and off until around 10 pm. The usual street flooding spots were wet at 9 pm. Now for a cool, dry week. Cycad, Encephalartos hildebrandtii from coastal Kenya/Tanzania finishing its flush. Edited: 05/04/2016 at 09:17 PM by ww |

I've only had to water my jaboticaba. Everything else hasn't shown any drought stress....yet... Of course, I'm under shade and have a ton of oak-leaf mulch which helps. That rain we had last week was pretty good. I suspect I will need some more rain soon though! (hello rain gawds...you listening?!?)

Its all my potted stuff that requires the daily watering, especially with the lower humidity and wind. I've done so much repotting lately with the nice weather we had last week. Too bad summer is a coming....

Yup, my pool water has been evaporating pretty quickly this past week when in previous weeks it hasn't. Dry air and potted plants...that is why I try to avoid anything in containers. Watering is a chore I try to avoid! Especially since I don't have a sprinkler system other than a hose in one hand and a beer in another!

Everything I need to water is in a small walk through garden of about 30 plants some in pots others in the ground. The garden has a bird bath I have to keep happy too! Definitely a one beer job. Everything else, except for severe drought, can get by on it's own. No grass. But I still look forward to rain and starting tomorrow is lookin good!

Bring it...I just used the last of my captured rain water yesterday. Time for a refill!
Rain in May is rare, so hopefully we get some the next few days! |

from this morning NWS Melb Wx discussion:
What will be the kicker today is a sharp N-S mid lvl isentropic bndry over the spine of the peninsula that is embedded within SWrly flow that will generate stout mid lvl vertical motion...this in the face of deep moisture advection. Set up is a classic categorical rain event for central FL. Indeed...the 00Z GFS MOS rang the bell for PoPs almost uniformly acrs the CWA. Add in the east coast sea breeze to the mix...and precip today will be a case of "not if but when". Painted the area with categorical PoPs today...decreasing aft sunset to 40-50pct from Brevard/Osceola northward...60pct Treasure Coast/Lake-O region thru midnight. Storm motion will be to the E/NE which will focus convection acrs the ern peninsula late in the day. A few stronger storms will be possible as they interact with the sea breeze late in the day with local hvy rain and gusty winds. Mid lvl temps a bit warm for hail...but frequent CG lightning a good bet. Temps will be held down somewhat by prevalent cloud cover with highs in the M/U80s expected. Min temps tonight arnd the 70F mark. |

Dry season over?
Wednesday...Deep moisture remaining over the central FL peninsula combined with low level southwest flow and mid level westerly flow will allow again for a high coverage of mainly afternoon showers and lightning storms to develop over the central FL peninsula and move twd the east coast late in the day with westerly steering flow. Minor impulses aloft along with favorable upper divergence, though not as strong as Tuesday, will favor shower/thunderstorm chances in the likely range. Locally heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds will be the main storm hazards. Considerable cloudiness is expected with high temps in the mid to upper 80s. |

Thursday...GFS indicates some drying in the mid levels with light
onshore flow developing in the wake of a frontal boundary that will have moved offshore with sfc high pressure building twd the Mid- Atlantic. This should allow more morning sun to destabilize the atmosphere in the afternoon with the east coast sea breeze moving inland. Have lowered pops slightly to the 40-50 percent range with higher coverage expected for the inland portions of the coastal counties and interior by mid to late afternoon. Friday...Low level flow is forecast to veer to the southeast with increasing moisture again ahead of a shortwave trough that will move north of the area Saturday. Expect a higher coverage of storms with the inland moving east coast sea breeze across the interior in the 50-60 pct range. Coastal pops 30-40 pct Treasure Coast to 40-50 pct nrn Brevard and Volusia counties. Sat-Sun...500 mb shortwave trough will move from the TN valley toward the Mid-Atlantic on Sunday. Increasing prefrontal moisture and southerly flow Saturday will support shower/thunderstorm chances in the 50-60 pct range mainly in the late morning through the afternoon. The front will move into N FL Sunday afternoon with some mid level drying beginning to move down across the northern FL peninsula late in the day. Scattered showers and storms are forecast Sunday with lower coverage as pops drop to 40-50 pct range. Highs both days mainly in the upper 80s. |

After the first wave this afternoon in Palm Bay at 4:00, I had 1" in the backyard rain gauge. Radar still shows a mess heading this way for the evening.
