While we're on the subject of bananas, I have 3 clusters of bananas spaced across the backyard.  Two are from the neighbor's pups. The other is from Lowes.  They are all over 6' tall and have not produced fruit yet.  Any advice about what to expect for a harvest?  They are all very healthy, well fertilized and watered.  Is there something I can do to trigger fruit production?

If this is the first banana in the ground the bunch will be a little smaller than the next generation. Can't really trigger the fruit but you should start to see smaller and smaller leaves appear prior to the flag, than the bunch appears. If you have a pup coming up next to any of your current plants, that pup will grow to fruiting faster than your current plants since it's established.

Reviving this old thread...

I've got to digg up my banana trees, and there are pups free to anyone who wants to dig then up.

I think there are 2 to 3 of them. I'll post pictures later.

Located in Melbourne beach.

Hey Pete, If you end up digging them up and there's no takers I'll be happy to take them. I would totally offer to dig them but I recently herniated two discs in my back :/ so diggings not a good ide for me. Good luck!

No problem. I'll be able to pot the small one, but the others are too big. Here are the pictures:

Cool! Yeah I think if we just out the root balls in a garbage bag they will be fine until I can put em in some dirt.

Sounds good. I've got back problems too, but I think I can get the small one in a pot this weekend, and maybe one of the medium sized ones in a garbage bag.

I'll PM you my cell number since I don't check this much over the weekends...
