So I'm designing my sprinkler layout and would prefer to go with soaker hoses and drip irrigation for all the beds. What I can't figure out is how do I know if I have enough artesian pressure to run this without the pump running? Do you guys normally use a battery operated hose bib valve before the pump? eg I have a well head with some spigots before it gets to the pump/timer/zone changer. Should I just mount a valve from there and see if it works? What are my options if not?

i would think you would have plenty of pressure coming out of your artesian well to run a drip line irrigation. i know my well flows out with plenty of pressure

It depends on where you are, some places get good artesian flow and some places you have to use a pump to get it to the surface.

If you have a spigot on the line before it gets to the pump it may be a primer spigot. If your artesian does not flow freely when the tap is open you should use the primer spigot and hook a hose from your fresh water to the well and fill the pipe with water so that your pump doesn't burn up by running it when there is no water in the pipe.

Mine does also. Do your drip lines clog up often?

i dont have one going yet, but i do have a lot of trash coming thru my well, i believe the casing is shot so i imagine it would get clogged if i put one in. i have a hose i run around the yard off a spigot before the pump and it has decent pressure

I think you could use a filter, mine doesn't have a lot of stuff coming through but it does have a filter. So would you use one of those electric timers that attaches to a hose bibb? (battery powered timer).

I use soaker hose.  If there is any sand after long time use I can pull the plug at the end and the sand and grit will flow out easily.  No unplugging small holes from drip or sprayers.

i have to clear out my artesian well filter before the pump about once a month. i dont have the money to drop a new well right now so just trying to get by for now. i had to take out the filters in my heads cause they clogged to easily. im trying to use rotors as well instead of pop up heads.

Look into re-sleeving the well.  You might even be able to do it if  you have the willpower.
