I've been growing several different ones for a few years. They are pretty cool, super drought, and cold hardy. Perfect for my (soon to be) desert garden. The thorns are a big drawback for me though. Worse than some of my meanest landscape bromeliads. Dyckia's are also the only 'bromeliad' I know of that don't die after blooming.
