Formerly Magnolia ashei, but now classified as a variety of Magnolia macrophylla, Bigleaf Magnolia, that is native to the Florida Panhandle and endangered. I've never seen a real specimen anywhere, certainly not for sale. Is anyone growing it farther south ( can it be grown farther south)?

My Dad has a bigleaf magnolia growing by the house in Mississippi. Hurricane Catrina topped out the pines giving more light and it seems to like it. Not so spindly now. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Thank you for the correction. It is indeed M macrophylla now. I'll make the correction. |
