Kent! That VP looks strange. Actually, none of those pics really do them justice...except maybe the Tommy, which looks more like a Kent in this pic.
...but please don't take that the wrong way. Thanks for all the pictures of such an awe inspiring fruit... I say this as I slurp down a mango smoothie...mmmmmmmmmm ------------------------- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. Edited: 06/30/2011 at 09:08 PM by Karma |

Am I mistaken to assume that anthracnose is affecting most of the fruit in that picture?
This got me thinking...Is it safe to compost mangoes that have been infected by anthracnose? It seems to me that top-dressing mangoes with compost that may have contained anthracnose-affected fruit would perpetuate the problem? ------------------------- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. |

You are right about Anthracnose. Since I don't spray the trees to treat for Anthracnose, most of my mangoes suffer from it in varying degrees.
Couldn't answer your question on composting. Sorry, have no idea. |

All my mango skins go into my compost, which eventually gets used on my vegetable garden. I haven't had any problems. |

Speaking of mango, they don't like all this rain we are currently getting. I've had about 2 or 3 inches in the past few days. Mango like it dry in December. A few years ago we got 12 inches of rain in December and that following summer mango season was horrible. The trees produced but the quality of the fruit was bad.

If you were to see the leaf of a mango tree would you be able to tell which kind it is???? |

I personally do not think that it is possible to determine the cultivar from a leaf.
