The annual rye grew so well in a shady area where St. Augustine had been graduallly fading away, that I've sodded the area with new Sapphire St. Aug. It's possible that the area has nematodes--the next door neighbor has lousy grass, but I'm not entirely sure it's nematodes rather than neglect and despair. I have what looks like a nematode problem in a sunny part of the the back yard. Grass dries out fast, annual rye failed. It's not a good area for shrubs, fruit trees, or veggies. Maybe perennial peanut?

My rye grass in full sun spots is all dead. In shade still green. When temps consistently get in the mid to upper 80s, like the past week...and no rain...rye dies out.

Sounds like you have a recurring hot/dry spot.
Probably just need to get more water on it. You can also try putting some empire zoysia sod there. I found a place that sells it by the piece, and Ill post the location here once I'm done sodding ------------------------- Exotica Tropicals Plant NurseryBrevard Florida |
