"Adult grasshoppers begin to appear later in the summer. After mating, the adult female will deposit egg masses in the soil. Each egg mass contains about 50 eggs, and each female will lay about three egg masses. The eggs remain in the soil through the fall and winter and then hatch out in the spring of the following year."
You might see them, brightly colored in yellow and black, munching on leaves of plants on your property. They are the Eastern Lubber Grasshopper or simply Lubber Grasshopper (Romalea guttata renamed from Romalea microptera in the Family Romaleidae).
