Lucked into a spot on a sportfishing charter "Endless Summer" with some coworkers out of St Augustine yesterday, and had a great time.

We went out about 60 miles to the 21fathom bottom/the "ledge".

Capt and mate were brave(or crazy) and pulled an 8 LINE SPREAD with two teasers all day, mostly skirted and naked ballyhoo, and one cedar plug.

We got two nice 15lb mahi, a wahoo on the planer rod, and five nice blackfins(not footballs but solid chunks) despite the 8 rod spread ALL the bites besides the wahoo were on the shotguns, and had several short strike knockdowns.

The conditions got a little sport with the SW wind chop and the SE swell so we opted out of bottom dropping but other boats who tried did well on the usual "stringer fish".

Water was 72-76* with scattered weeds and flyers galore.

LOL we had a afternoon Poke bowl party and it disappeared quick!

Sushi rice, cubed fish tossed in soy and ponzu, thin sliced cucumber, diced avacado, jalapenos, cilantro, lime juice, and a little mixed greens!

Sounds like a blast.

Was it weird having other people do stuff for you? I used a inshore guy in the Keys and had to fight to keep myself from doing all the work.

Yea I couldnt help grab a rod that got hit, or help clear lines etc.

I did have to check myself (it was a free trip after all), once we started to zero in on the tuna.

I wanted to switch the spread to include more small "tuna friendly" baits like naked hoos, little jet heads/feathers on light leader and run more lines waayyyy back, and also would have doubled up on the planer rod as those always seem to get bit, but I just upped my beer intake and tried to soak it all in!

It was also cool to ride up on the bridge and chat with the capt

Those guys run a good ship.  Glad you had fun, I've heard the trolls been slow.  UNfortunately I'm speaking from hearsay as I havent fished in what seems forever

When I fish on my buddy's dad's boat we usually run 6 or 7 with teasers.... those guys are better fisherman than me though  :-)

the mate did a great job(solo) but IMO since we only got hit on shotguns and the planer the other 5 rods seemed in the way, especially when we hit a minefield of small Sargasso clumps, the poor guy was clearing lines non stop!

Def a cool little charter scene down at the conch house they all seem to help each-other out and stay on the bite.
