Thinking about rolling the dice on a new one, 115 four stroke Sea Pro.

I know they've earned a bad reputation in the past.

Anyone have an opinion on the newer mercs?

I know it's kinda like the Ford-Chevy thing, but I've also been pretty anti Merc...... that being said, from what Ive read, the new 4 strokes are good motors, plus being new, it'll be under warranty

I see Sea-Pro is making a comeback.  I guess someone bought the name from Brunswick?  I'm hoping to find a used sv1700 after I get my house fixed up

What are you getting?  sv19?

Sea Pro is the commercial use engine by Mercury, set up with more lower end torque and some other things different than their recreation models. It's on a Carolina skiff I'm looking at 218 dlv.

I always look at commercial guys and most use yammy or Suzuki, but my buddy has a newer 115(2 stroke) merc and likes it.

I have owned Merc 2 strokes in the past. All was good. I'm not familiar with newer models. They do seem to continue to have a market share. Looks like Suzuki is making inroads.

All I've had in the past was Mercury and Yamaha. But people really love Suzuki. Commercial fisherman use them and beat the hell out of them and they hold up very well from what i understand. Honda is supposed to be pretty good too. I've found it really comes down to the particular model, not necessarily brand. Research, research, research. thehulltruth.com is a good place for boating info.

Mercury to get you there fast, Yamaha to make it home.

I personally think Suzuki is in fact the most bang for your buck. Torqui, fuel efficient, reliable outboards.

I backed out, not quite ready to roll the dice on a boat.

But lots of good advice here, thanks!

How did you resist the temptation to toss out a greenie and take a tarpon for a spin?

No kidding, I docked the rental right in the slot that was full of them. We were petting them and they were taking our leftover baits right out of our hands.
