Saw some 1/4 to 1/2 mile out in a usual area on Sunday. Wished I'd had a pole to go for a sleigh ride but we were just out paddling around watching wildlife. They kept turning and following the board really close behind.

Also saw a marauding school of monster jacks destroy some little bluefish.

i have caught them on live mullet and pogies trolling from the kayak, maybe a 1/4 mile from shore. also got a couple off the beach on a super spook. not a lot of fish will pass on a super spook, the action on that lure kicks ass. could also try the doa baitbuster, i have had success with that as well.

Last summer I got one from the yak, on a 5" paddletail "swim bait.  Looked like a pogy and it worked

Agree with above swimbaits and bucktails, also my favorite are lipped diving plugs like rapala xraps, bombers, and yozuris bigger the better to help stand out in the bait.
Also if you rig a couple treble hooks in tandem behind a 1oz sinker, throw into the pogie school and snag a few and transfer to a rod with a big circle hook.

Haven't seen any in Satellite but I got lit up by sharks and big jacks on every bait last weekend bout 1/2 mile to a mile off the beach. Using crokers. Thanks for the suggestion on lures.
