I've been going offshore a lot in my kayak lately, and been running into lots of Bonito. They give a fantastic fight and really make the reel drag sing . . . I almost exclusively put them back as the guy I go with, said its no good to eat.

Today, I caught 2 nice sized fish, and then let them go . . .I came home and started doing some research to see how it would be cooked . . .

People are 50 - 50.

If you do eat them, how do you cook it . . .

If you dont eat it, why not . . .

My buddy will eat anything, including Blue fish eggs and he spit the Bonehead out within seconds.

Proceed with caution.

The back strap area of the fish is edible imo and can taste like tuna if prepped right. Biggest thing with them is to bleed them all the way out and get them on ice asap. Even then, not entirely sure it is worth the effort....

Little Mackeral, that's their  family, but I like the shoulders ok, grilled, and the old man in the sea ate them raw. Cajuns eat everything. Here is an old reciept for you for all questionable fish, the oak board reciept: nail the fish filet to the oak board cook it throw away the fish and eat the oak board.

I have a friend who just recently started dating a woman from the Philippines. We brought home a bigger bonito and she made us some "Fish Head Soup".

Ill be the first to try anything once

And i'd try that again.

Just sayin.
