Hey I have recently picked up fishing and I want to catch some trout. I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a good spot for trout around the indialantic area and what kind of bait and tackle to use. Any information will be appreciated

Fish the docks where the river has a grassy bottom.  Use a lead jig head with a soft plastic replaceable body, 1/16 oz jig head is nice light one for shallower water (sub 2') or you could step up to an 1/8 oz for the deeper water (3'+).  Real it in so that the lure is close to the bottom, sometimes bouncing off the bottom works well.

Live shrimp works well for just about anything in the river, especially trout. For trout and such I just tie a hook straight to the line or to a real light leader direct to the line (braid of course) on a lightweight rod and don't use any other tackle as the trout seem to have pretty good eyesight.

Thank you for the information! I am kinda a newbie at fishing around here though and I usually just go to ryckman park, or one of the bridges to fish... In other words I do not know where to fish that has a grassy bottom around my area (Indialantic) lol. If you guys could tell me some spots with a grass bottom that I can get to without a boat that would be great! Thanks again

Trout is everywhere right now. Dont be afraid to wade instead of fishing off the bridge just go into the water near the causeways. Pick up a dozen live shrimp and take them w/ u when you wade.

Also, if you are really a beginner, dont be afraid to hire a guide to show you the area (secret spots).

This is what I did, when I wanted to learn.

My guide taught me almost everything I know about fishing (knots, secret spots, gear / tackle, reel, pole, wat to look for to spot fish, etc).

It'll be a $150 - $200 well spent . . . I have a recommendation for a guide if you'd like (No, its not me).

Warning about the wade fishing - invest in some thick booties or wear some old shoes; anything to give you some protection from the sting rays. I got zapped last year and its a pain that I can't begin to describe. The "sting ray shuffle" doesn't always work. This area is made for wade fishing though, I sold my boat over a year ago and have caught 10 times more fish without it (maybe cause I'm fishing instead of making repairs)Good luck!

There used to be a trail just north of Whitey's (just north of the Inlet) that led to some great wading flats. We had days with all trout over 5 pounds caught on Bagley's finger mullet before the sun broke the horizon, then on big shrimp, Pig fish; I wonder if it's still there?

So I went underneath the Melbourne causeway around sunset and stayed for an hour. Didn't catch a thing... I was using the mirrOlure catch jr. and doing the "walk the dog" technique but still got one bite only. If anyone can help let me know! I was hoping to at least catch something...

If you're in Indialantic, try 6th street (west end of 6th ave). There's a small launch there and I've had luck just wading and casting parallel to the docks. I stopped by the 192 causeway tonight too and noticed the water was real murky with all the rain - this may have screwed it up.

barnacle: Do you mean the 6th ave in melbourne beach or indialantic? I will try that spot next time I go out. Thanks!
