Looks to me to be a Fat Snook. Unless it was very big. The link states:

Size: a small species, rarely more than 20 inches

How big was it?

Yep, the mouth looks different on the Tarpon snook.

it was somewhere in the range of 20inch caught in PC. i thought it might have been a fat snook i just wanted a second opinion. that huge spine is what threw me off
