I went yesterday in the Sat/IHB area. I was hoping to hook into some tarpon, but we only saw 2 in about 2 1/2 hours of fishing. The blues were keeping us very busy. I heard reports of more tarpon in Melb Bch.

Same thing... Tons of blues and would see a tarpon roll every 30min or so. Seemed like it was the same fish working the pod the whole time.

I took my yak out at Playlinda for the first time in the ocean ever last weekend. Probably the most fun I've ever had fishing it totally blows the river away. We caught a bunch of whiting and a baby shark. Had the catch over side in my catch net cause I cant fit a cooler on it and I had a 5 footer circling me once and then a 3 footer about twenty minutes later. Experience of yak fishing in the ocean totally starts to blow as soon as the winds turn on shore. Cant wait to get out there again next time its flat.

Sometimes when they are not in the mood to chase live bait they will eat a dead pogie or mullet free lined or with a small weight to get it down in front of their face.

I have been almost getting the gumption to take the canoe out again....but man if there are ANY waves it is sketchy. (It is nice being up out of water and carrying more gear.)

I go out down in South Cocoa beach from time to time and my advice is ONLY go out when the surf is flat or REALLY small. Maybe it's just my lack of yakking skills but surfing even a small wave in gets my kayak going sideways with the inevitable flip and all your stuff going under.

Me and a couple buddies went out on sunday off the beach and hooked a nice size tarpon on a free lined pin fish.  We also hooked up a big shark on a free lined mullet, both were within a couple hundred yards of the sand.  It was my first time at it and I can't wait to do it again.

Has anyone on this forum taken a kayak out in Canaveral Bight and paddled up to the shoal off Cape Canaveral? Is it worth the trip?

Jono, yes, the trip is farther than it looks. Make sure you leave very early so you can get back in time before afternoon storms. Wear gloves. Take lots of water. And do not for any reason get out of your kayak or touch land. Also, saw lots of sharks in that area.
