Timing is everything. Trump could not have picked a worse issue or a worse time. As the bodies pile up and the Turks go deeper with the war crime, the GOP cannot tolerate this blatant failure in leadership. This was not part of a plan or strategy, the consequences were obvious and imminent and trump's recognition of the mistake with the toothless threat to destroy their economy for doing what he gave them permission to do is embarrassing domestically and internationally. The impeachment defense is similarly scattered and devoid of strategy or plan. They will both suffer the same fate for the same reasons.
