Ocasio doesn't waste time proving she's a fool.
"We don't have a choice. We have to get to one hundred percent renewable energy in 10 years. There is no other option," Ocasio-Cortez added.
That is one dumb individual.

We use about 143 billion gallons of gas/yr in the US.
If we added a dollar tax to each gallon, that would be $143B*.
Solar costs about $1M per megaWatt (MW) so
we could install about 143,000 MW/yr with that money.
That much solar (at 25% efficiency) would generate 313 million MW/hrs/yr.
Since we use about 3900 million MW/hrs/yr in the US,
it looks like we could supply most of our electric needs with solar in 12 years or so
by adding a buck to a gallon.
Caveat: Back of the envelope calcs are fun (check the math!), YMMV!!!
*Note for scale, $143B/yr is about 20% of the Pentagon's budget.

100% renewable in 10 years would destroy the country (and could not happen). I fully realize that is what progs want. The rest of us do not, including most of that dumb woman's constituents.

They're so scared of AOC, I love it. She has the liberal dems AND the GOP geezers in a fit.

You will dead and gone before all the evidence of your ignorance proves you dead wrong. Its the youth that you pays for your lie now pay later program. She wants you to do the unthinkable, which is think of someone other than yourself. Think of the planet you are bequeathing to the next generation. I can understand why you're threatened.

The added carbon is mucking with aquatic and marine ecosystems. And yes, it is getting warmer. Didn't go below 75F at our house for 5 consecutive months in 2018. Had more than a dozen days in each of July, August, September, and October with a minimum of 80F or warmer. Long term average in 100 years of records at local stations is a daily minimum of 72-73 during those months, half days above half days below. >100 consecutive days without once reaching the long term average is pretty remarkable. If it was one or two years here and there like that it would be one thing. But it has been 10 consecutive summers like this. Try doing intervals with me on the river or street when it is 80F with a dewpoint of 78F at daybreak. The normal low is sweatsville at a saturated 73F but still safe for hard work. 80F with a dewpoint of 78F is actually a dangerously high wet bulb temp for vigorous exercise without modifying intensity or duration.

Don't forget the coal related, acid rain that killed off the cold water fisheries in the pristine mountain lakes of the Adirondacks and others.
The fishery is finally recovering but now Trump wants more coal, "beautiful clean coal" which doesn't exist! Hey, people said we couldn't land a man on the moon too, but we did. Let's give it a try. At a minimum (sorry fossil fuel lobby) let's not go backwards! Edited: 11/14/2018 at 09:12 AM by theglide |

Don't forget the mercury loads in all of the tasty pelagic fish that require sane people to limit consumption lest they end up mad as a hatter.

CA pays average 17.9cents / kWh - FL pays 11.4 cents / kWh. The average US household uses 900 kWh/mo., so about a $60 difference / month. Economic disaster? Maybe to some, not to the country. Also, "FPL projects that solar will outpace coal and oil combined as a percentage of the company's energy mix by the year 2020." http://newsroom.fpl.com/2018-0...n-energy-for-customers

There is a solar far next to the Beach Line and a new massive one going in next to the turnpike.
It's happening. Trump people just don't know it. ------ - we have plenty of ignorant voters. - Trumpablo I couldn't agree more. ------------------------- I was right. |
