N.Y. Attorney General Sues Trump Foundation After 2-Year Investigation

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/0...p-news&WT.nav=top-news

The New York State attorney general's office filed a scathingly worded lawsuit on Thursday taking aim at the Donald J. Trump Foundation, accusing the charity and the Trump family of sweeping violations of campaign finance laws, self-dealing and illegal coordination with the presidential campaign.

The lawsuit, which seeks to dissolve the foundation and bar President Trump and three of his children from serving on nonprofit organizations, was an extraordinary rebuke of a sitting president. The attorney general also sent referral letters to the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Election Commission for possible further action, adding to Mr. Trump's extensive legal challenges.

The lawsuit, filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, culminated a nearly two-year investigation of Mr. Trump's charity, which became a subject of scrutiny during and after the 2016 presidential campaign. While such foundations are supposed to be devoted to charitable activities, the petition asserts that Mr. Trump's was often improperly used to settle legal claims against his various businesses, even spending $10,000 on a portrait of Mr. Trump that was hung at one of his golf clubs.

The foundation was also used to curry political favor, the lawsuit asserts. During the 2016 race, the foundation became a virtual arm of Mr. Trump's campaign, email traffic showed, with his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski directing its expenditures, even though such foundations are explicitly prohibited from political activities.

So many lawsuits.

So many lawsuits.

This site is not just for attorneys, but you might have to register to see these results:

Trump on the docket

Presidents get named in suits a lot. So do billionaires. Put in Obama, Barack or Bush, George or Musk, Elon or Buffet for example.

This much though? Nope.

Trump is a problem. An incompetent civil liability at best, obscenely and compulsively criminal more than likely, and treasonous monster quite possibly.

This is an ugly one too.

"Persistently Illegal".

Raised money for veterans. Spent it on his own campaign.

Voted for him? Patriot fail.

It's Summer-time!

Trump fails for the third time to stop the Summer Zervos defamation lawsuit

https://www.vox.com/policy-and...vos-lawsuit-defamation

The New York Court Appeals denied Donald Trump's motion to dismiss the Summer Zervos defamation lawsuit against him. This is the third time the president has tried and failed to get the case tossed or delayed, reports ABC News.

Thursday's decision allows discovery in the case to move forward - something that Trump's legal team likely fears because it could force the president to testify about his treatment of women, among other things, under oath.

Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice, alleges that Trump groped and kissed her in 2007, and she is suing him for publicly calling her a liar when she came forward with her allegations. She is one of more than a dozen woman who have accused Trump of sexual assault or harassment. The president has denied the allegations.

In March, New York State Supreme Court Judge Jennifer Jennifer Schecter ruled that the case against Trump could proceed. Paula Jones's lawsuit against Bill Clinton led the Supreme Court, in Clinton v. Jones, to rule that the president could be sued in federal court on matters outside of his role of president. Trump's lawyers argued that state courts, where Zervos filed her lawsuit, don't have jurisdiction over a sitting president. Schecter rejected that argument in March, saying "no one is above the law."

How many more lawsuits against Trump are there?

On Point did a piece on how much coin Ivanka, Kushner and Donnie Sr have turned since the election. It turns out that working for free in the White House is ridiculously profitable.

Trump hasn't contributed a dime to the "Trump Foundation", it's a family slush fund. Petty cash.

I wonder how our local veterans feel about raising money "for veterans" and then spending it on golf?

The money the Ivanka "earned" working for the Trump Hotel in Washington is just silly.

... It's a little chilly in here: let's add another lawsuit to the fire.

Emoluments suit vs. Trump now personal as well as official

https://wtop.com/national/2018...l-as-well-as-official/

WASHINGTON (AP) - Attorneys general of Maryland and the District of Columbia on Friday expanded their lawsuit accusing President Donald Trump of accepting gifts from foreign and state governments, suing him not only as president but in his personal capacity as a businessman.

Legal experts say the move takes the "emoluments" clause of the Constitution into uncharted legal waters, since it has been interpreted as only applying to presidents in their official capacity.

"The conventional understanding is that once the president is sworn in ... everything he does is official, so he doesn't have a personal capacity any longer. That's kind of the assumption, but that could be wrong," said Mark Brown, a constitutional law expert at Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio.
