Seemed like a conflicted soul. But what a great show. I liked the one, i believe in japan? Where he got his ass handed to him by some little tiny guys.
Never saw his cooking shows, i'll have to look them up.
Hey andrew zimmern: take care of yourself, okay?

He had a cooking show? Never heard of it, would be incredible to see. Looked around and could not find it.

He started by writing an article for a local magazine in New York.  It was turned down.  A friend suggested he submit it to The New Yorker.  Editor David Remnick called back.  That led to "Kitchen Confidential," a true classic, and great fun.

He was a curious thinker on a journey everywhere. That made for good journalism.

OH, you meant A Cook's Tour. yeah, that was precursor to No Reservations.

One of my favorite bits here. He took Waffle House and did a Chef's Table vignette. So funny.

As an enlightened individual, you will appreciate his episode on russia. Where he rips both putie pie, and his pet poodle herr chumpf a new one.
Well done, master chef....

61 is a shitty age to be.
More people should have told him it can get better, even if that's just wishful thinking.

I think he had all kinds of issues, drugs alcohol etc.

Either way he was a good voice for many.

"Some, of course, like to claim that Mexicans are stealing American jobs," Bourdain said. "But in two decades as a chef and employer, I never had one American kid walk in my door and apply for a dish washing job, a porter's position or even a job as prep cook."

"In an interview with GQ, a writer asks Bourdain about the angry tone that's come through in his books and some of his shows' episodes. "Well, I'm often angry." Bourdain answered. I think some of Iggy's best music was angry music. I think it's a valid feeling. A lot of Raw Power and Fun House in particular, when I was an angry young man, those songs, some of those songs, I needed to hear those songs very, very badly."

"I was very unhappy, angry, frustrated. You've got to be careful about what you do with that anger. I think fear is a much more dangerous emotion. I think what we are seeing in America is more an ugly reaction to fear than anger. Anger is a byproduct of fear."

I Just deleted an entire page about how suicide squanders the gift of life, depression robs the suicide of the rational ability to choose life and how the fine line between brilliance and insanity often leads the brilliant to drugs, unbridled promiscuity, depression and misery. I read it again and I think all I really could come to a point on was that I surprised, this is sad and I hope that others follow his actions. My condolences.
