I mean the Declaration of Independence says that all men are created equal with certain unalienable rights.

But even that doesn't mean "all the same".

What about the parents that put their children into a situation where that is possible? Are they not culpable? There are risks involved when you take it upon yourself to illegally cross the border of another country.

No, borders are not imaginary. We do not live in a one nation world. This may be your viewpoint on the subject, and while I I love the idea of it myself, it simply is not reality.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.


Applies once they become citizens. It helps to cross the border of the country you want to become a citizen of legally. Willingness to violate the laws of a nation from the very get go and also put your children at risk in doing so .....umm ok.

Because people were treated differently for an invalid reason well into the 20th century and even well after passage of the civil rights act of 1964.

Like it or not, AA exists because it assumes that people are fundamentally equal and it is trying to correct for arbitrary and capricious employment discrimination. So your "all the same" argument doesn't work here.

I'm responding to jonny's stupid "aren't people all the same" comment.

As for the illegals and their children. They are taking a risk. They know the risk. Tells you how shitty things are where they are leaving. You obviously think that they deserve whatever happens to them because of their illegal status. Okay.

AA isn't just about black people

Hispanics weren't enslaved yet they still benefit

Asians are comparatively punished as well, even though they were/are discriminated against

What about Irish and Italians? Not oppressed enough?

Sure they are, they are a construct of the mind, invented by humans to protect their possessions. Imaginary lines on a map.

When authoritarians tell you that the people on the other side are animals, or less human than yourself, it should set off alarm bells.

Is there a universal moral obligation to treat people with the kindness and dignity you would hope for yourself in a similar circumstance?

This is about the new policy of purposefully separating children from their parents. It isn't just happening to illegal immigrants. They're also doing this to legal asylum seekers.

Imaginary in the sense that they aren't actually drawn on the ground, if that is the silly game you have been playing this entire time.... ok I will agree they aren't literally drawn on the ground. The border between countries is very real however, even if someone didn't take magic marker to the ground.
