Bush and Obama didn't have this issue even though they had the same laws on the books.  And to be fair, Obama was no softie on deporting duly processed immigration cases.  Look at the deportations under Obama's Presidency vs Trump or Bush.  But, Trump thinks this fabricated drama will take the heat off of his other problems.  

BTW - Most of the people who enter without authorization are not criminals, even in the most strict legal sense.

You don't know me well enough I guess to know I was against Obama's immigration policy too, in fact he deported more immigrants than his predecessor. Neo-libs are terrible on immigration, but none of them deliberately broke up families and put children in concentration camps.
