JT, my apologies, I went back and reread your comment, and realize I took it out of context.

and....yes I do support an easier path to citizenship. I’ve said that many times on this forum.

Now, back to the question at hand, why would this be a bad thing?

Define 'easier'.

What would that look like?

Ellis Island style? You know, wide open taking in W.O.P.s with the flimsiest of documentation. That was 'legal' and 'easy'.

How are your politicians doing on that 'easier path to citizneship front'?

Again with the distraction. You want to discuss easier path to citizenship, start a thread on it.

Good point/question.

"A census calculates the population of a country which can be used for many things, such as locating places to put public service facilities (schools, post offices, roads, libraries,etc.). In a census the citizen is asked questions about their jobs, income, and family members (children)."

Notice the key word "citizen."

If you are an illegal alien, you are not entitled to the services the government provides, funded by tax dollars, provided off the backs of citizens. Therefore, whether or not you return the survey, or return it with "non-citizen" checked, your count doesn't/shouldn't matter anyways.

Not a distraction. It is a core issue. You are just dodging.

What is your solution to an easier path to citizenship Scombrid? Since you seem to want to turn the discussion into that instead of the original topic.

An actual better way to approach the topic, IMO, is to answer this question: Why does it take so long to become naturalized?

If it were up to me, you would get your SSN on the spot upon completing the following:

  • Demonstrate knowlege of the Constitution, and how our government works
  • Demonstrate ability to speak English (not master the language, but understand it
  • Have no prior felons/criminal behaviour in your previous homeland
  • Demonstrate a skill or proof of eductation.

But Miker is asking me my solution to an easier path.

I'd rather hear from the people that vociferously profess support for an "easy path to citizenship". (like what obx posted above while I was typing this post)

I already answered the opening post in saying that asking the citizenship question on the census makes sense when there is or has been a lot of recent immigration.

The ultimate answer to that question dates to the middle 20th century. The system was designed to be restrictive to slow the process down and limit the number of immigrants.

Without a big change, just the processing to execute reasonable restrictions such as you propose will keep the process at a slow crawl even without quotas.

why do we need a bunch of low skilled immigrants? times have changed

soon enough robots will be picking the crops then you'll have to institute more socialism to take care of them (which is the real goal here)

think ahead!

we need people with skills

Shut the door and lock it for all I care, beats the status quo

Socialism isn't needed if they are paid less either. Tech won't render those jobs obsolete.
