And your point being, dinghy?
A group of 7 year olds on bikes and scooters just out of school. A group of giggling teen age kids not paying attention. Distracted older folks oblivious to their surroundings. Does the auto uber program account for being around drinkers? An experienced human driver, especially an experienced pro cab or truck driver would see stuff like this coming and adjust accordingly. An algorithm will not. Not now, not ever Hire experienced, trained humans, period..... ------------------------- It's a democratic hoax |

I think Mike is right in terms of this coming shift to all kinds of autonomous machines including transportation.
Of course there will be setbacks, and we should resist it as much as possible, but i think the writing is on the wall. The big problem will be massive unemployment resulting from it, and further concentration of wealth. ------------------------- Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. Video shows that the woman basically stepped out right in front of the car. Yeah she did. Human or machine, she was getting hit in this scenario. |

How many people have been hit by human Uber drivers?
It's a legitimate question. ------------------------- I was right. |

What's the big deal? Guns mow down 33k/year. The NRA and their pro slaughter agenda wants to make them easier to obtain. I mean it's only one person right?
End of the day, self driving cars are here, and they are here to stay. Sure, going to be some bumps in the road, but that ship has sailed. There is a lot of profit in autonomous vehicles. ------------------------- QOP = Terrorists FK = Gay |

Yes, here to stay, it's all about what the public is willing to accept to get cheaper goods to market. it is all about convinience. Cars were invented, people got run over, laws were made about highways, roads, lanes, pedestrians. This is wher you can now walk this is where they can drive, less people died up to the point where everybody owned a car and by that time we are immune to people getting run over. It is so convinient to own a car that we accept that people get killed and that cars crash. Look at this thread... The lady stepped out into traffic. "It Was HER Fault'.. We even have people saying that even a human driver would have run her over. Making excuses for the machine is the start of accepting the deaths it causes. How many people are hit by human Uber drivers? How many HUMAN Uber drivers are there out there AND how many Automated Uber drivers are out there. Which has killed the most people per 1000 miles driven?

Making excuses for the machine? LOL.
If you step out immediately in front of a moving vehicle, you are going to get hit. It isn't a matter of human or computer at the wheel, it is a matter of inertia. |

Globally:
1.3 million people a year die in traffic accidents with human drivers globally. An estimate 35 million per year are injured with human drivers. In this country with our roads, laws, and vehicles: 37,000 people die a year with human drivers 2.35 million are injured or disabled by human drivers 1600 children under 15 die every year from human drivers Road accidents with human drivers cost 230.6 billion per year. Unable to find national UBER stats regarding crashes/injuries/deaths with a quick search.... I did find that during a 6 month period in NYC alone, there were 5 fatal crashes and 753 others that caused injury by UBER drivers. |

Autonomous transportation will save more lives than it costs. I don't like it per se, I think we're getting closer to the people on the spaceship in the movie "Wally", but I think it's inevitable.
But then there's always fully automated luxury gay space communism to look forward to. ------------------------- Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. In biology, such behavior of cells is called "cancer". |

We are just in the fledgling stage of autonomous transportation. The software will continue to improve as will the hardware behind it. In fact, even the current software uses predictive machine learning and is constantly improving itself the more it is used.

Desktop computers have been around 30 years, when was the last time one of them was hacked and made to do something that the owner did NOT intend for the computer to do? Computer software has been evolving and fighting hackers on a continuous basis. In fact, half the people on this forum think the Russians hacked the election... Next thing you know people are going to be blaming highway hackers for car accidents, their car was hacked and didn't brake, the moving van was hacked and delivered the stuff to somebodyelse. The Uber fleet was hacked by Yellow Cab and all the Ubers drove their passengers into the river... Terrorists hacked an entire fleet of moving vans and they are smashing them into gay night clubs all over the country... ------------------------- |

Most people will adapt. Anyone who is crossing the street drunk, on their cell phone, or with their head down anymore has added a tad more risk.

Perhaps too soon to be on the street. But it's absolutely inevitable that they will be safer than humans eventually, maybe already are. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

Even after all of the indictments and statement by our law enforcement, there are still people that deny this happened? (not that there is any proof yet that any votes were changed in machines after being cast) But hacked data and social engineering was used to both attack the voting process, that They hacked into the systems of some election officials, and more importantly they manipulated the electorate by using Analytics on that data to micro target lies and fake news ) ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |
