It's happened again. We should do something while we all agree
But that's not how we do things in the land of the free
We suffer the horror, swim through the blood and pray
But after a week it's just another day.

It's the slippery slope that makes any attempt wrong
And next week another shooting and still the same song
It's crazy people not guns, it's not the time
It's time to do nothing as our children are dying

We can leave it to congress, at nothing they they are pros
We can lament about the NRA and and gerrymandered NRA bros.
We can talk, pray, extend condolences and wonder why
The same way a drug addict promises to never again get high

We have this addiction to nothing, it's a comfort and a curse
We pretend nothing is wrong, until we're forced to see the hearse
The mother and father on the front page again
Mourning their child and the reality that nothing remains.

Something isn't everything unless you love nothing at all
The nothing people paid millions for nothing guys like Rubio et al
Nothing money well spent, loyal empty shirts who call for prayers?
More nothing again and we are complicit players.

Nothing again. Nothing the last time and nothing next
This country had a nothing addiction and there's no Rx.

A a gun owner I ask our politicians, candidates, and friends to support an outright ban on high capacity magazines for centerfire rifles, restriction of ownership for autoloading centerfire rifles to qualified members of shooting sports clubs and creation of a licensing requirement that includes mental health screening and thorough background checks.

Time to trade thoughts and prayers for plans and actions.

NRA playbook for politicians:

  1. It's not time to talk about this
  2. Politicizing this is wrong
  3. Did you forget yet?

Pam Bondi showed up at the press conference last night and stated emphatically that the State will pay for the funerals and make sure they aren't price gouged by funeral homes.

It was ghoulish.

And speaking of ghouls, the governor deflected questions on gun control and just said this was "pure evil" and we mush pray.

It was a sickening spectacle.

Tax gun and ammo sales to pay for school fortifications. Make insurance a requirement on Semi automatic with higher premiums on high capacity mags.

Several Brevard County schools have started to build fences around the schools. It is horrible to think what that fence could become if the wrong person gets inside the fence and everyone else is trapped inside it.

So, if we just raise taxes high enough, crazy people will act normal? Sounds reasonable.

This is the world now. We need fortified schools because they are a target rich environment with inadequate defense. All of the guns that flood our country are part of the problem. We need to secure our schools and gun buyers and sellers are the first and most logical choice. Freedom aint free, is it? The schools can't afford that kind of fortification and its sensible to treat it as a user tax. Its not raising taxes, its creating a tax that specifically addresses the vulnerabilities of schools and the frequency with which they are attacked. Its paid for by gun buyers and not through the ad valorem taxes that we all pay. That's called fair. The insurance on the guns would pay for the damage that the guns inflict if they are used in a crime. Think of it as preventative maintenance with a fall back that compensates the dead victims if the gun is used in a murder.

Most people crazy enough to do something like this don't really care whether they live or die in the process, so I'm not exactly sure what the fence arounds schools is supposed to do. Seems like it turns the school into a trap that prevents kids from escaping.

The tie that binds pretty much all of these types of events in the last 10 years are the known mental instability of the shooter and the pschotropic drugs they have been perscribed. Crazy people used to be locked up with other crazy people. We decided as a society that this approach wasn't the best, so now the people who were once in the looney bins are walking among us. I don't think we need to lock our crazies back up in the looney bin, but we should probably be keeping a closer eye on them than just giving them a prescription for drugs and sending them on their way. Law enforcement isn't equipt to assess mental stability and they can't do anything unless a crime has occured.

I think you could make a much faster and larger impact by focusing on identifying who is dangerous-crazy and finding a way to treat them, than you can by raising the prices of guns and ammo.

A documented disturbed teenager reported to FBI still has access to weapons.

We just paid for his "freedom" with the lives of 17 people.

Minnow swiller and all others that believe that is what the 2nd amendment is about are loons.

Based on the people that I have heard interviewed who knew the shooter, the shooter's behavior wasn't really all that surprising to any of them. If you are on some sort of drug and the purpose of that drug can be used to prevent you from being a danger to yourself and/or others, then maybe you should have to sit down with a mental health professional once a week or once a quarter to determine whether or not that person needs to monitor you more closely or potentially have you committed to a treatment facility in rare cases.

Congress opened session today with a moment of silence for the victims at Douglas High School.

Think about that. Congress...silent.....

Well said JB.

I am all for keeping guns out of the hands of mentally disturbed people. But how about we talk about the glorification of violence in Hollywood or in video games? How about broken families? Kids having kids when they were never raised themselves? What we are witnessing is the breakdown of the moral fabric of a civilization. Its every man for himself. You cant fix this with legislation, we are doomed.

Perhaps a bullied outcast orphan found family in a white supremacist terrorist organization based in Tallahassee:

A spokesperson for the white supremacist group Republic of Florida (ROF) told the Anti-Defamation League on Thursday, February 15, that Nikolas Cruz, the man charged with the previous day's deadly shooting spree at a Parkland, Florida, high school, was associated with his group.
On Wednesday, February 14, Cruz, 19, a former student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, allegedly entered the school with an AR-15 and opened fire, killing at least 17 people and injuring 14 more. Cruz left the scene but was later captured by police and has been charged with premeditated murder.
After self-described ROF members claimed on the discussion forum 4chan that Cruz had also been a member, the Anti-Defamation League called the ROF hotline and spoke with an ROF member who identified himself as Jordan Jereb.
Jereb, based in Tallahassee, is believed to be the leader of ROF. In 2016, he was arrested on charges of threatening a staffer in the office of Florida Governor Rick Scott because he was allegedly angry at the staffer's son.
Jereb said that Cruz was associated with ROF, having been "brought up" by another membe. Jereb added that Cruz had participated in one or more ROF training exercises in the Tallahassee area, carpooling with other ROF members from south Florida.
ROF has members in north and south Florida. The alt right white supremacist group borrows paramilitary concepts from the anti-government extremist militia movement (not itself a white supremacist movement). ROF describes itself as a "white civil rights organization fighting for white identitarian politics" and seeks to create a "white ethnostate" in Florida. Most ROF members are young and the group itself is only a few years old.
Jereb added that ROF had not ordered or wanted Cruz to do anything like the school shooting.
If Cruz's role is confirmed, the Parkland school shooting would be the second school shooting by a white supremacist in the past two months. In December 2017, another young white supremacist, William Atchison, engaged in a shooting spree at a high school in northwest New Mexico, killing two students before shooting himself.

FK go fuck yourself and your politicizing false info.

Nobody listens to you anway.

Enough is enough with the shootings. There is clearly a serious problem and there needs to be changes. Idiots like you are simply in the way, and we are done tolerating your mental illness.

its time to get changes in place.

So another shooting in yet another gun-free zone.

How hard would it be to have armed guards at schools? Cut some fat from the top throw a few bones at the bottom allow trained armed guards to develop security plans specific to their assignment I mean school. Do not let the local school boards have authority over the guards. Similar to how the secruity forces works in the Air Force.

Oh nevermind the libs wouldn't want an armed scary person on a school campus. I bet that coach would have preffered a gun over using his body as a shield.
