It became the official national anthem under the much-detested Franklin Roosevelt.  There was constant second-guessing and hunting around for a better replacement.

We'd be a stronger nation if we could rise above obligatory rituals & symbol worship.
Those things are more appropriate for authoritarian governments.

The video that FK posted is full of shit and is historically inaccurate.

Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner during the bombardment of Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

We weren't "colonies". We were established as an independent country and Great Britain invaded.

Quit being disrespectful and post accurate history!
