He has to work across the isle.
It's not dumb, in his case it's desperate.

1. He's a weak leader who can't even get his main priorities passed with his party in complete control. Pelosi and Schumer pounced on that.
2. The leadership of his party does not know how to make government work. The Democratic leadership does.
2. He will need a few Democrats to vote against his impeachment. ( he will need to give a whole lot more than this)
