1. Abandoned Homes- Drugs get sold out of them, drugs get done in them, they look miserable and depressing and have a psychological effect on people who have to look at boarded up/ overgrown homes everyday..., and are a great place for murderers to dump bodies. You can buy a "liveable" home and lot in some of the bad neighborhoods for a little over 10 grand . What the best solution is to this I don't know... but it seems that some ultra rich folks could do SOMETHING if presented with a case.................. 2. Professional Athletes need to step up. They need to call out everybody. They need to make killing uncool, and stop glorifying "musicians" who talk of nothing but how great murdering and selling/doing drugs (and strippers) is. All it takes is one person (hello Lebron) to create a movement. It's not as easy as taking a knee and calling someone racist or blaming- people need to think in a whole new way and actually DO something. Teenage kids are murderinf and getting murdered every day and yelling at people and taking a knee for 2 minutes during the anthem isn't getting it done.

I'd suggest that these folks stop trashing and shooting the cops, and, after that happens, send in enough cops to stop the crap.

It doesn't really seem like they're shooting at cops- just each other... or whoever happens to be standing near their "Opposition". Completely agree about the attitude towards cops changing though. But technically that is government related.... thinking of non-govt (since they have failed completely) ideas on this thread....

Ha just kidding.... how specifically? Will better trade schools create jobs there or just job seekers?

Education and economic opportunities
Also agree that better role models and some social and cultural changes need to happen.

Wow, it sold for 122K back in 2006. You sure Trump didn't own it and sell it to a Russian back then?

I kid. If you see a nice Craftsman with good bones let me know.

Oh, and the social problems? I'm going with community policing, free trade school, and national healthcare.

It's a generic problem, a concentrated extreme example of what many older American Industrial cities face
The jobs went away to lower cost states and countries, the white people moved out, the city is badly segregated the police are corrupt and brutal, an the city government has been a corrupt one party machine for decades.

You need to bring back the jobs, fix the police violence and government corruption, fix the public schools and reintegrate.

All very hard problems

It's not gonna be solved by a few white boys from Florida.
It's not going to be solved without government help./

I don't think anybody's idea was for "white boys from Florida" to fix the problem. Also- anyone know the definitions of "specific" or "government" ?

Trump really isn't the one to blame here. Or any one person. I applaud that he actually seems concerned about the situation. Guess it's impossible to have a constructive thread on here... it's either trump this or Obama that. Like we're in 7th grade.

You asked for specific non government" ways to solve it.
I am replying that there are none.

You don't fix what's wrong with a cities government in a non-government way.
You fix the cities government.

The White guys in FL are us.
We can not solve this, we are not there.

And I agree this has nothing to do with Trump, other than his use of the issue to rile up the racists among his base.

We could stop all of this racism crap. It can't be helpful to anyone to be told their entire lives that they have no chance because society hates them.

ok WG.... guess we'll wait on the government to solve it. It's not like if Lebron cared millions would jump on board or anything....

He could, if he used it to help fix the broken government.
I wouldn't expect him to fund it or to try and replace its services.

But why should he? He has no connection to Chicago, he's from Ohio, works in Ohio.
Surely you could find some Chicago based or born rich person that could do more.
Why call on LeBron James? Why does he come to mind?

Yes Tpap, ending the racism would help a lot, it is a lot of the problem, but that's a hard nut to crack.
