Yes, the intention was to stop it from spreading and figure out a way to phase it out over time, not to end it all at once. Nobody had any idea how to end it all at once without major turmoil.

Just freeing slaves all at once would be the mother of all "regulatory takings" in todays terms.

The language he was using was meant to appease the slave states and stop them from revolting.

"Lincoln continued to insist that this was a war to save the union, not to free slaves."

He kept insisting that because slavery was the biggest issue for the confederate states as indicated by their declarations of secession. He was trying to keep the union together without a long an bloody fight and letting the south keep their slaves was the only way that was possible.

But it didn't work and total war ensued.

But by 1862, Lincoln was considering emancipation as a necessary step toward winnin the war"  Thats right, read that again. The only reason the slaves were freed, was because they were a resource to the South and aided in the war effort!!

The war forced his hand.

Educate yourselves and stop all of this fcking ignorance that the "war was to stop slavery".

Quite right. The war was started by people wanting to preserve slavery.

That isn't going to happen. Maybe it should, however. It would be an interesting and instructive experiment. California will go way left, whereas the U.S. will trend right. We could see who does better. It also be interesting to see the immigration/emigration in and out of California before it became official.

I don't think it will. Big money won't let it happen. It'd mess up the economy. California holds more than 13 percent of the economy.....

EXACTLY!!!!! The same way/reason the North didn't want the South to secede. They didn't give a shit about slavery, it was the $$$. The fcking North still had slaves even during the Civil War!!! Research it, man.

I did over and over. It was about slavery. Read books and listen to Historians, not Bannon's Breitbart BS.

Then you know the North had Slaves, and the war was not stared because of Slavery, specficaly.

Some interesting excerpts:

"In his inaugural address, delivered on March 4, 1862, Linconly proclaimed it was his duty to preserve the Union. He also declared that he had no intention of ending slavery where it existed"

"most white Northerners were not interested in fighting to free slaves, or in giving rights to black people. For this reason, the government turned away African American volunteers who rushed to enlist. Lincoln upheld the laws barring blacks from the army, proving to northern whites that their race privilege would not be threatened" (Time to tear down his monumument, too!!!! )

"Lincoln continued to insist that this was a war to save the union, not to free slaves." But by 1862, Lincoln was considering emancipation as a necessary step toward winnin the war"  Thats right, read that again. The only reason the slaves were freed, was because they were a resource to the South and aided in the war effort!!

Read the link, its from fcking PBS, not Briebart or anything. Educate yourselves and stop all of this fcking ignorance that the "war was to stop slavery". Slavery was only stopped as a further means of weaking the South, and had nothing to do with the North being compassionate, and the South being bigots. The entire country was full of bigoted racists at that time. TIME TO TEAR DOWN THE AMERICAN FLAG, right!!!

Again, pulling out excerpts that help your view. The war was about slavery, nothing but.
