When I was in the Army I lived near a town in Italy that had massive 50 caliber bullet holes all over it among many other towns with ruins and shambles from that war. I also took part in an airborne drop reenactment in Sainte-Mère-Église (Where Movie Longest Day takes place) and the locals that were children at the time the actual drop happened fell to their knees crying hugging the soldiers because they remember being oppressed by Nazis first hand. I have video of it. It was overwhelming. People don't get it. Then for more "fun" we went to Omaha Beach and the cemetery. Then in the 90s I took part in the first airborne drop into Kosovo circa Operation Allied Force. We lost a soldier that day while making a presence in a place where "ethnic cleansing" was a "thing." Privileged and Ignorant is right. No respect for our country nor its history or even world history for that matter. They just think it all was a thing that happened far away and long ago with different facts that suit their flavor of the day and they think it won't happen again. They dont send you unless you are attached to an airborne unit or you requeat it upon a reinlistment or something.
