Hopefully they are caught and prosecuted. Just because the history is dark doesn't mean it should be erased to appease liberal view points. It is sad and extremely shortsighted to so do.
I view the people that want to take down monuments to the history of this country with great pity. We need these reminders of our past to remain where they are to help guide us going forward. |

It is not wise not to keep these statues as a reminder of our racist american legacy. Moving them from a prominent display in front of a govt building however is absoutely necessary though.
Those who forget, or try to erase, the lessons and mistakes of the past. Are doomed to repeat them. Orlando handled this well by moving them to a cemetery for confederate soldiers ------------------------- It's a democratic hoax |

Pull them down, either with state cranes or with the people's ropes.
These are monuments to traitors and criminals. If your history is treason and human trafficking, you deserve to be in a history book, but not looming over the courthouse. ------------------------- Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. It's not erasing history. It's a reminder that dipshit ideals will be toppled by the good and just.

Yep, if I was mayor and the Nazi party was coming to town, those things are gone.
The marble would be smashed to dust and the brass would be turned in statues of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglas. ------------------------- I was right. |

You can't change the history of this country because it offends you. I too hate the fact that we were once a slave nation, but our history is exactly that. Monuments and memorials need to remain so that we can be reminded of both where we came from and the mistakes we made in the past.
You people make me sick. |

There are a couple of statues in Virginia that sit on ground that was used for slave trading. Do you think they were put there on purpose or was it just an accident?
Many, if not most, of these statues have little to do with the war and those lost in it. http://www.stltoday.com/opinio...1a7-a5428ea7ef9a.html ------------------------- I was right. |

monument - noun - a statue, building, or other structure erected to commemorate a famous or notable person or event. Commemorate - noun- recall and show respect for (someone or something). Tear the shit down. Dont commerate it. I'd say 98% of those who want the statues and flags to remain are not hoping that we will learn from the past. Thery are lore likely hoping for a return to the past. (well, you know since they still crap outside anyway). And techinically its the history of the Confederacy. And Although very briefly, a different country altogether--one that fought a war against the United States, and lost. Maybe we can round up all the nazis, klan and white supremacists and give them thier own reservation. Make them walk there too.

Nobody is changing history. In fact, we're facing up to the great American sin and refusing to honor the perpetrators.
I know this is too much to expect from our local Rebs, but imagine having to walk past a monument to a man who took up arms to keep your ancestors in slavery every time you entered a court building. Would you expect fair and equal treatment? Was that monument placed there to remind you that you won't? ------------------------- Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. Make America Great Again. Let's take it back to 1951. But the people pining for the past seem to be against the tax code of the 1950s. So what of the past do they want back? ------------------------- ... |
