"The Department of Agriculture's chief scientist oversees more than 1,000 scientists in 100 research facilities:Trump's pick to run the agency is Sam Clovis, a climate-denying talk-radio host who not only lacks any kind of scientific degrees -- he didn't take a single science course at university.
"Here's a little taste of Sam Clovis, the talk radio host Trump picked to run the department that keeps us all from starving to death: "After the interviewer highlighted the widespread acceptance of climate change within the scientific community, Clovis responded by saying, in effect, that scientists were trying to fool him. 'I have looked at the science, and I have enough of a science background to know when I'm being boofed,' he said." Meanwhile, Trump has nominated Michael Dourson to head the EPA's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention; Dourson's last job was at the helm of Toxicology Excellence for Risk Assessment, the company that DuPont picked when it needed experts who would claim that its toxic waste wasn't so bad for the people who were imbibing it. " And here's some on Dourson, who Trump says will keep us all from being poisoned every time we draw breath or turn on our taps: "In 2002, the company helped West Virginia set a safety threshold of 150 parts per billion (ppb) - a number that stayed in place from 2002 to 2006, and determined whom DuPont was obligated to provide with clean water during this period. That number was 150 times higher than the maximum safety level DuPont's own scientists had determined in 1988 - 1 pbb - based on internal company research showing that PFOA was toxic to both workers and lab animals." http://boingboing.net/2017/07/21/we-are-fucked.html ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

I'd say that is exactly what draining the swamp looks like. It's always refreshing when someone who claims to be educated so champions the idiocy of those who are so willfully not. Gives hope to so many left behind by their inability to discern reality. "Even you can be President". The liars have got your back. America is fucked. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

Clovis has zero coursework in science. His position as created by Congress stipulates that it be led by a scientist. They'll confirm him anyway. All Trump can get is yes-men. Trump's hedgefund manager investment banker head of Commerce has already started micromanageming decisions by scientific bodies down the line. He didn't like the fluke regs in Jersey so he told ASMFC to stand down and let Jersey over-fish. I hope Jersey collapses the stock. ------------------------- ... |

Wouldn't bother me. These positions require managers, not specialists in the fields. often times it is good to have an outsider managing. ------------------------- I :heart; Q |

I didn't read anything that said those guys were uneducated. Seems like Clovis has a PhD in economics. 'He didn't take a single science course at university." WTF, he went to the Air Force Academy, how does that happen?" "After the interviewer highlighted the widespread acceptance of climate change within the scientific community, Clovis responded by saying, in effect, that scientists were trying to fool him. 'I have looked at the science, and I have enough of a science background to know when I'm being boofed,' he said." That is clearly the speech of someone who is "willfully undeducated". A PhD in economics, and yet willfully clueless on simple science. Under Secretary for Research, Education, and Economics. "Dr. Clovis was one of the first people through the door at USDA in January and has become a trusted advisor and steady hand as we continue to work for the people of agriculture. He looks at every problem with a critical eye, relying on sound science and data, and will be the facilitator and integrator we need. Dr. Clovis has served this nation proudly since he was a very young man, and I am happy he is continuing to serve." yep, we are fucked. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill Edited: 07/24/2017 at 08:49 AM by WG |

These positions require managers, not specialists in the fields. often times it is good to have an outsider managing. Ask any tech person or scientist what it was like to work for a manager that was willfully ignorant about the basic details of the job. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |
