Back in the middle of May, when former FBI Director James Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, there was an interesting interaction during the questioning from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Grassley said at that time that if President Donald Trump was not under investigation that Comey should make that public as it was wrong to imply he was under investigation if he was not, that it was harmful and divisive for America.

Reading between the lines, it was very clear that Grassley had been told by Comey that Trump was not under investigation.
Comey, of course, failed to take his advice, perhaps putting the nail in Comey's ability to remain as FBI Director. Had he done so, perhaps none of what followed would have happened.

Grassley said on Thursday that this failure to tell the public harmed America and actually served Russia's purpose.

Grassley makes another very salient point.
Comey didn't just tell him and his Democratic compatriot, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA); he told other Congressional members including the Gang of Eight, which included Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
Yet Democrats continued to push the fiction.

Even after knowing that Trump wasn't under investigation, 'Lyin' Chuck' continued to say in public that Trump was, even saying Trump should not pick a Supreme Court nominee "while he was under investigation."

As Grassley notes, this furthered the media hysteria, "The whole time he knew it wasn't true."
This all happened, according to Grassley because of Comey's failure to be transparent, to be accountable, as Grassley had urged him to be.

Grassley now suggests a similar effort is underway to get Attorney General Jeff Sessions, "Mr. Comey and the media might be doing the same thing to Attorney General Sessions."

So because of this lie, liberals and media gone full bore attacking Trump, positing impeachment, for months?
Why? Because James Comey refused to be truthful and Democrats just kept lying.
