I am firmly opposed to the death penalty, simply because I will never grant the state the right to take any persons life.

But should we allow persons whose right to "liberty and the pursuit of happiness" has been permanently revoked as a result of a life in prison sentence the ability to save themselves from decades of misery, and us from millions of dollars spent keeping them caged, as he did?

I think maybe yes.

This what happens when the con could no longer con himself. He was acquitted but he went back to his cell to face a life sentence with an appeal that didn't lend itself to optimism. I agree joe. Lots of murderers and rapists come to very real conversions and find a place within that life sentence to be free in their minds. They don't argue that they should be released because they have seen the error of their ways, they quietly live a new purpose and put the pieces together with benefit of an honest, fearless moral inventory. 12 steps and higher powers. It's not as easy or loud as suicide but then again what else is there to do.
