Down side is, , , , the students are expected to get 80%+- of their money back, , , , not as a "refund" but as a civil settlement, , , , guess what? Individual IRS, state and municipal taxes will be due on the amount each claimant receives.

On a related note, , , , the "forgive student debt" thing is somewhat similar. I borrow $50,000 from you for school, end up not being able to pay a single penny back to you, and you eventual "write-it-off". Guess what? Yep, next January you will receive a 10XX form for the full, unpaid, balance as "income". Not to worry though, , , , the IRS generally gives you up to 18 months to pay what is owed. Then, after 18 months, the IRS will go Hard Ball on you.

Normally when a party settles a fraud case, the US gov will no longer contract with them. They are put on a list and they are not used. This is new territory with trump because he should be on that list and not even able to maintain his lease for his hotel in D.C. He's still allowed because he's the president. His whole life he has steadfastly maintained that the rules do not apply to him. He operates under the mantra that it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission and when caught, never admit anything and litigate it until it's no longer relevant. Settle it after, or just reform your corp and bankrupt the old one. This is the brilliance that an army of knuckle dragging aging White malcontents look to when they tout his leadership. He's going to get rid of rules and make the rules that keep us down not apply to us. He's more con than conservative but he's our con. Well, I didn't buy that used car then or now and to quote eibla, you cannot polish a turd.
