Well, well, imagine that.

"The refugees at Sterling come from all over the world, from Syria to Sudan, Chad to Bhutan. And they've all passed the company's standard drug test."
"In our lives, we don't have drugs," said Alzamel, who was hired within three months after arriving in Pennsylvania. "We don't even know what they look like or how to use them."

They will learn.
Drug tests for employment are stupid, mostly they just catch weed use from the recent past.

It's a welfare program for the HR-Laboratory-Insurance industrial complex.

I once knew a guy who was officially excluded from testing by the government/contractor; he openly admitted to smoking weed and partaking in certain other joys. Problem was, , , , he had a very rare and specific "skill set", so they had to let him slide in the best interests of critical national security requirements!!!

Some of it is driven by the insurance industry. They figure a non-druggie employee is less likely to suffer a workplace injury, reducing liability costs, and also more likely to be healthy (reducing employer-provided medical expenses) and reduce absenteeism.

Regardless of any potential upside in productivity, with all other things being equal, the insurance savings may drive a company to stick with the testing policy.

Removing employer-provided medical insurance from the equation removes one employer incentive to test, but still leaves at least two.

I know that a lot of high tech companies that don't have a DOD or DOT mandate have stopped doing it, costs them too many creative employees to pass on all of the pot smokers.

It's a cash cow for the labs, and they spend a bundle promoting pre-employment screening.

In my younger days we had a variety of techniques to beat it, but really if you can't give up the buds for a month, you're just not trying.

But I think these days it's the opiates.

LSD micro dosing is covertly encouraged at some of the cutting edge tech companies because of the creativity boost it provides without causing you to trip balls. If you have done LSD then the goal with the dosage is to hit that sweet spot just before the trails where you are fully snapped into focus and clear.
