those workers are starving, which is just what would happen here if we were to elect an idiot like Sanders.

Unbelievable that so many people bought his discredited philosophy.

Still an idiotic comparison
Nothing's changed since the last time you failed to provide any reasons to justify it.

the tampon represents the death throes of the Repug Party. Sanders is irrelevant, and no one has ever considered Venezuela's Castro imitation to be "Progressive".

His party has been hijacked by insanity in the form of Trump. Does Trump have a platform? Anyone listen to his "foreign policy" speech today? Was he slurring his words. Is his policy isolationism?

Woman card??????

Sanders wants socialism for this country. Venezuela is but one of many examples of the failure of socialism as a political system. And let's not go on about Denmark or whatever the current Scandinavian country de jure is doing. Those countries are not socialist.

The article does nothing to prove your "theory" that socialism ruined that economy rather, and quite clearly I may ad, put the blame on the dude investing all the countrie's money in oil....like a repug!

Once again Im right your wrong, stole your line too!

Venezuela hasn't invested money in oil, and that's part of the problem. They haven't modernized their oil production facilities in many years, and thus can't compete price-wise on the extraction part.

Topping that off are all the social programs created and promises made back when oil prices were high enough to pay for them.

If they have oil production facilities, one must assume they either invested money, or santa claus was just really nice one year....

Basically, stonedpanda, they haven't invested ENOUGH. They obviously invested something long ago, and it was enough to get them by in the years Santa Clause did stop by (with baskets full of high oil prices). But now they have nothing left to invest, because they spent all their more recent oil profits handing out government cheese, and so forth.

Venezuela didn't just need to invest more in oil. It needed to diversify its economy. Had it been plowing even more money into oil then it would be losing all of that right now.

Nobody is making decent money on oil extraction at the moment and every economy that is over belanced on oil is in the shitter. Hell, the price drop screwed up a bunch of our own economic indices.

Instead of nationalizing the oil production they should have allowed competitive companies to explore and produce oil with sufficient tax to fund social and infrastructure investments that would build an economy apart from the oil revenue.

But what happened was a couple of big multinationals came in a bribed officials for sweetheart deals and those companies were making a killing taking the oil out from under the people while the population rotted in the streets. So the proletariat revolted. Bad outcome all around when that happens.

The government is failing because it did a lot of dumb things.

They put all their eggs in one basket (oil), but then didn't maintain the hatchery, so to speak. They can't efficiently refine their heavy crude. Even if they could, that market's not up right now, and will probably continue to dwindle as the world gets less and less dependent on oil.

The administration put their buddies in charge of everything (the oil, the bank, etc), not professionals. They crazily overvalued their currency, with no regard to realistic markets.

And, in a way, tpapablo is right. They subsidized things they couldn't afford. It's not socialism, though. It wasn't an equalization of resources- it was was actually the capitalist's fiction of value not being finite, one heck of a bubble, yet applied socially.
