Lack of Hurricanes Confounds Meteorologists and "Global Warming" Advocates
By Russ Hepler

We have been told for years that "Climate Change/Global Warming" was soon going to cause catastrophic storms killing thousands and causing billions of dollars in damages. The radical environmentalists preached this "gloom and doom" for decades - urging all Americans to drastically change our lifestyles or we would all suffer.

But once again, the alarmist predictions haven't matched reality. Now, a new report is out which directly contradicts the dire predictions made by Al Gore and his "green" army.

CNS News shares the report:

No "major" hurricane - defined as a Category 3 or above - has made landfall on the continental United States since 2005, according to records compiled by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Hurricane Research Division.

That is the longest stretch of time the United States has gone without a Category 3 or above hurricane striking somewhere on the mainland of the country, according to NOAA hurricane records going back to 1851.

"It's easily the record - with all the necessary caveats," the National Hurricane Center's Eric Blake told CNSNews.com.

Blake, a specialist with the center, is the co-author of The Deadliest, Costliest, and Most Intense United States Tropical Cyclones from 1851 to 2010.

Blake said that the ability to measure hurricanes is better now than it was in the past.

Prior to the current pause in major hurricanes striking the U.S. mainland, the longest pause had been the eight years between 1860 and 1869 - 146 years ago. NOAA has published its calculation of the categories of all hurricanes striking the U.S. going back to 1851.

In the 164 years for which hurricane data has been collected, 72 have had at least one major hurricane. There have also been two periods of five-straight years (1915 throuhg 1919 and 1932 through 1936) where at least one major hurricane has struck they U.S. mainland each year. (See chart below.)

The U.S. Census Bureau noted the fact that it has now been ten years since the last major hurricane struck the U.S. mainland in information it published this month to mark the beginning of hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30.

The last major hurricane to strike the U.S. "was Hurricane Wilma in October 2005 over Southwest Florida," the Census Bureau said.

Well now, how can that be - no major U.S. hurricanes in the past 10 years? I know President Obama predicted he would lower the rising ocean levels, but "god-delusions" aside, little has changed in the past 10 years as far as energy production and consumption in America. We're using coal, oil, and gas as never before. These were supposed to be the demons which would bring about the apocalypse.

CNS News provides more details:

The National Hurricane Centers' Eric Blake told CNSNews.com that the criteria for hurricane categorization has been altered over the years.

"Small differences today that we could detect, you couldn't detect a long time ago," Blake told CNSNews.com. "Given that we just see things a little better, we've got more data and better satellite data, we can give a little better estimate than we could a generation ago.

"But nonetheless, it is a record," Blake said of the 10-year pause in major hurricanes striking the U.S. mainland. "It's easily the record - with all the necessary caveats."

And, why do we have this new record of no-show hurricanes? Blake is stumped as CNS News reveals:

When asked to comment on the current record pause in major hurricane activity, Blake told CNSNews.com: "I like to think of it as Mother Nature giving us a little bit of a break after giving us a beating in 2004 and 2005. That's my best guess, but I don't know."

The pause is "an unlikely event, so ascribing the significance of it is a challenge," he said.

Hmmm . . . sounds very much like the 20 year "pause" in "Global Warming" that has leftist environmentalists fretting in their lattes.

I'm sure some "Climate Change" advocate will invent so excuse to explain this away ( or possibly "blame it on Bush").

But, facts are "inconvenient truths" for these people, so they'd rather not deal with them in their pursuit of a socialist "green" utopia.

As for the rest of us, we are grateful for the break in the hurricanes. We certainly know there will be bad ones to prepare for again in the future. But, that's just the reality when "weather happens"!

Hurricanes are specific events. The lack of accurate prognosticators is about as silly as wondering why my weatherman was wrong today.

Looking only at the US, and looking only at landfalls, is seriously myopic.

It's important to look at all storms in all oceans, whether they make landfall or not.

This article
http://www.wunderground.com/education/webster.asp
presents some intelligent discussion, including the difficulties in inferring trends accurately.

Nonetheless, 'tis usually better to err on the side of caution.

As a side note, there appears to be an increasing trend of serious infections from necrotizing fascitis, vibro fulnificus, and naegleria fowleri in the warming waters of the southern USA.

BTW, nothing Eric Blake says is surprising, nor does it say anything about Human Caused Climate change.
But then this Russ Hepler fellow follows with this non-sequitur that betrays his dishonesty:

"Hmmm . . . sounds very much like the 20 year "pause" in "Global Warming" that has leftist environmentalists fretting in their lattes.

Nobody outside of your sad world accepts crap like that as journalism.

and can you tell me what my "liberal agenda " is? I don't know,

Joe,
I was unable to find the publication date on your link, but it does seem to be based on some rather old studies.
i wonder if there as been anything new on this since.

I wondered too. The copyright date is 2015, but the latest date referenced in the article was 2006. Since that article mentioned lot of the work being done at that time was unfunded, I don't hold much hope the debaters have reached a consensus and since then.

I was hoping to find a quick and easy, up-to-date link documenting the number and intensity of storms worldwide to see the trend.

But as the Dr. Masters link describes, it's not easy to accurately categorize storm strength in other parts of the world, especially in the Indian Ocean, where you can't just fly a hurricane hunter through it every 6 hours. Size times duration times intensity (total power integrated over time) is another metric I would like to see for describing total storm energy, but that may be even harder to come by.

"Our results indicate that although a substantial portion of the observed change in extreme temperature occurrence has resulted from regional- and global-scale thermodynamic changes,"

Ummmmm....nope!

NASA is responsible for the BOGUS extreme temperature occurrences by altering data to make it look as their agenda wants it to look!

When they were BUSTED they doubled down...and now look the crooks that they are!

Taking a huge amount of money to produce whatever data sets the government (Obama) wants them to produce sio that Obama can attempt to control and influence world governments.

It's a huge money game....and YOUR wallet is the one feeding it!

I guess we didn't go to the moon either.  Thanks NASA.

Obama was born in Kenya and Chemtrails are raining down on us.  What else?  Oh yeah, the gov't bought all the bullets and are readying containment camps.
