I do hope that the independent self sufficient patriots of Texas have the good sense to refuse any federal aid following this recent rebuke by nature. Certainly they will pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Wrong comparison. The question will be whether they riot, loot and plunder and whine like little girls like the progs in New Orleans. I bet they don't.

So far as taking federal disaster aid, that has nothing to do with conservative vs. prog. Few, if any, conservatives are against disaster aid. I think it is a proper function of the federal gov't, as I would wager most conservatives do.

No, they support secession, so they should shudder at the thought of taking handouts. Unless they are all hat and no cattle.

Obviously ignorant of Texas politics leave you missing the point again. The gloms in Houston may break out in NO style looting as they are predominately dems who snuck across or those who didnt go back to the EZ after Katrina..The demogloms willsuck up all the money rusty is willing to shell out

I wouldn't give them spit. Make them beg like we did Rick Scott. Without the Progs in Houston the average state IQ would be cut in half along with the tooth count.

I do believe the term redneck is reserved for those states in the south, and east of that large mexican wasteland called Texas. Just as Cracker is more pertinant to your old school Floridian democrat.

This whole thing is hilarious! If it wasn't so serious for all of those involved. God help me, am I my actually feeling sorry for the Republican assholes in Texas! Yeah...I guess I am.

They have one of the highest rates of uninsured in the US, so I'm glad the federal government is around to offer support.

The failings of state government shouldn't cause good people to suffer.

Did I miss something?

Did Texas Congressmen or women vote for defunding FEMA?

Did Texas not absorb the majority of the Katrina refugees?

Texas voting to defund the federal government? 1/3 of the entire state budget comes from the Feds. The same governor who generously shares his supposed hatred of the Feds seems oblivious to all of the obvious benefits that they provide to his state. It's like his party line is blindfolding him. This disaster puts his politics above the needs of disaster stricken areas and it needs to be highlighted.

So basically you either agree to give Obama and team a blank check or you get nothing?

My bad. Let'em drown.

Oh man. This is confusing! Now that I am enlightened unto the grand altruism of "conservatives", I have trouble reconciling some things.

For example, you've got this list of folks supplicating for federal aid for their home states:

1. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH): Requested disaster aid after Hurricane Sandy.

2. John Barrasso (R-WY), Republican Policy Committee Chair: Requested disaster aid after flooding.

3. Roy Blunt (R-MO), Republican Conference Vice Chair: Demanded the Senate be called back from recess to pass disaster aid during a drought and boasts: "When a disaster surpasses the ability of states and communities to rebuild, Senator Blunt believes the federal government should prioritize spending to help the people whose lives and livelihoods are impacted. During his time in the Senate, he has fought tirelessly to ensure that Missouri gets its fair share of those federal resources specifically dedicated to disaster recovery."

4. John Boozman (R-AR): Requested disaster aid after snow storms in January 2013.

5. Richard Burr (R-NC): Requested disaster aid after severe storms.

6. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA): Requested disaster aid after flooding.

7. Dan Coats (R-IN): Requested disaster aid after tornadoes.

8. Tom Coburn (R-OK): Requested disaster aid after winter storms and for extreme drought.

9. Bob Corker (R-TN): Requested disaster aid after flooding and asked for supplemental emergency flood relief.

10. John Cornyn (R-TX), Republican Minority Whip: Demanded drought relief aid and requested disaster aid for wildfires.

11. Mike Crapo (R-ID): Boasted of obtaining a FEMA fire safety grant and pushed for a bill providing emergency drought relief.

12. Mike Enzi (R-WY): Requested disaster relief after flooding.

13. Lindsey Graham (R-SC): Requested disaster relief after freezing and boasted of obtaining emergency drought relief.

14. Chuck Grassley (R-IA): Requested disaster relief after severe hail storms.

15. Orrin Hatch (R-UT): Requested disaster relief after flooding.

16. James Inhofe (R-OK): Boasted of obtaining disaster relief after severe storms and drought.

17. Johnny Isakson (R-GA): Requested disaster aid after flooding.

18. Mike Johanns (R-NE): Requested disaster relief after flooding and blasted Democrats for "inaction on disaster relief" for drought and wildfires.

19. Ron Johnson (R-WI): Requested disaster relief after a blizzard.

20. Mark Kirk (R-IL): Appealed after FEMA denied assistance following severe storms and tornadoes.

21. Mike Lee (R-UT): After calling federal disaster relief unconstitutional, endorsed relief aid after flooding in Utah.

22. John McCain (R-AZ): Endorsed disaster relief after flooding.

23. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Republican Minority Leader: Requested disaster relief during a drought and after tornadoes.

24. Jerry Moran (R-KS): Requested disaster relief after tornadoes.

25. Rand Paul (R-KY): Requested disaster relief during a drought and after tornadoes.

26. Rob Portman (R-OH): Endorsed disaster relief during a drought and after storms.

27. Pat Roberts (R-KS): Boasted of obtaining disaster relief after drought and wildfires and criticized the Bush administration for inadequate emergency relief after a blizzard.

28. Marco Rubio (R-FL): Requested disaster relief after severe freezing.

29. Jeff Sessions (R-AL): Requested disaster relief after tornadoes and during a drought.

30. John Thune (R-SD), Republican Conference Chair: Requested disaster relief after flooding and snow storms.

31. Pat Toomey (R-PA): Requested disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy before it even hit landfall.

Yet when Rep. Rogers [R-KY-5] introduced a bill for relief for Hurricane Sandy to restore infrastructure, particularly in NY, they were vehemently opposed. Were it not for Democratic support, it would not have passed the senate, and our largest city and economic center would still be trying to turn on the lights.

My issue is that the people on that list are heralded as conservative icons. I guess they may not be the ones whose wisdom, selflessness, and pragmaticism I should worship. Or- I just, being a neophyte, just cannot comprehend their greatness and love of our nation just yet.

So, Buddha Tpapablo, are those not the conservatives who we are to revere, or do I just not understand the mysterious ways in which they work to make our nation great?

Interesting way to frame their failure to appreciate the Feds in times of crisis. Texas has a mythology that believe that, like many mythologies, contradicts their truth. They want to believe that they have and always will be independent and free from any outside influence. They believe this with the same faith as a religion. This does not square with the reality that they accept 1/3 of their budget from the Feds. They are hypocrites. They do not practice what they preach and they have no problem making outrageous claims like the federal government is taking over walmarts and invading them. They put all of their pension money in gold and promptly lost 1/3 of its value when gold went down the way everyone said it would. Glenn Beck failed them. But the independent souls that all wear the required don't mess with Texas are mostly uninsured. When they get gored at a rodeo and goes to the hospital with no insurance, is he complaining about the socialism that forces the hospital to treat him (emtala) or how he shouldn't have to pay for others? No. When the waters recede are the same fearless independents advocating for free market to dictate how the recovery happens? Never. The mythology is strong. The facts contradict it. This crisis highlights that.

Apparently, stereotypes/mythologies are also very strong here in Florida.

What teet was Texas looking to suck?

Is it possible to suck and resent simultaneously?

I just want to see a Texas sized answer to this.

It appears that you don't understand much of anything. I'd advise that you educate yourself. That would be a good start.
