""I understand why he has to do this - to prove he's a man. He's afraid of his own weakness. Russia has nothing, no successful politics or economy. All they have is this."

An scared, insecure person, with something to prove can be dangerous, especially when they have a nuclear arsenal.

Putin is dangerous, but he needs to be taken down from within.

gallup Unfortunately his polling numbers have never looked better. I don't know if that actually means anything or not, but I'd assume it's less likely to happen from within. ------------------------- Specializing in sarcasm and condescending rhetoric since 1971. |

Putin looks all rosy in their tightly controlled media, I don't think that will change any time soon.

You can find the real information about the Soviet Union in the past and how it links to today and Ukraine and Crimea on "The Root". Also on "The Root", there is great information on ISIS and the muslim caliphate of the past and today. It explains history better with facts, not opinion.
Also, informing yourself on the Armenian genocide of the past and how it links to the Christian genocide of today, is a smart thing to look at. Not to mention, we have been paying off muslim nations (Barbary pirates) to not attack our ships as early as the 1790's and after that, Tripoli. Truly a barbaric people. |

The end of a recent letter to the Economist. ...What is happening in Ukraine has a lot to do with history. It was nationalistic and repressive regimes, like the one taking shape in Ukraine with Western acquiescence, that brought about the war. Those who back the authorities in Kiev today take up the cause of the nationalists. No wonder that the Ukraine crisis is viewed in Russia as the unfinished business of the war. State sovereignty is no carte blanche to suppress one's own citizens. There is a huge gap between the policies of the authorities in Kiev, such as imposing their historical narrative on the entire population, and perceived European values or the ideals of Maidan.
