US Agriculture Has Big Appetite for Cuba Trade

MINNEAPOLIS - Dec 19, 2014, 9:06 AM ET

By STEVE KARNOWSKI Associated Press

U.S. agriculture has a big appetite for freer trade with Cuba. From wheat to rice to beans, the industry stands to be one of the biggest beneficiaries of President Barack Obama's plan to ease economic and travel restrictions imposed against the communist-ruled island.

The older Batista supporter type Cubans in Miami are the minority - and are literally a dying breed.

Anyway, we have 300+ million of us here..  Thats what democracy is all about..  Polictical pressure works for a while, but sooner or later the BS gets swept away...

Just like Prop 3 will come back around, stronger than ever, this time and get passed regardless.. Opposers would have wished they voted for it 'as is'  in '14.

I know the old Batista boys had the the GOP's back in Florida once upon a time, but they do not seem to have amounted to shit the last few Prez elections - actually their area seems to have become a relatively stable Dem voting block..

Marco & the rest of the batista boys can take a flying leap & go F themsleves..

Thats what happens when you back opressors and steal from the rank and file citizens... Paybacks are hell!!!

Wall Street & big business is going to be behind it and it's just a matter of time..

Whaaaa whaaa whaaaaaa.

It is true that the younger generations of Cuban Americans do not have the same level of hatred of Castro that the older Batista generation does. However, they do not have the political clout (read $$$$$$) that the old guard does.

It is that ol school $$$$ that is the foundation of Lil Marco's campaign treasure chest and he is singing to that choir as loudly as he can.

Yes 3rd.  US sugar companies have been subsidized/protected for years.

The superstars in Congress appear to have somewhat of a dilemna...

Solution!  Since Obama = bad it will be easy to keep giving taxpayer money to the sugar industry!

This kills the Presidential hopes of Cruz and Rubio.

Cuba-US warming held up by listing of Cuba as terror sponsor

HAVANA -

American hopes of opening an embassy in Havana before presidents Barack Obama and Raul Castro meet at a regional summit this week have been snarled in disputes about Cuba's presence on the U.S. list of state sponsors of terror and U.S. diplomats' freedom to travel and talk to ordinary Cubans without restriction, officials say.

Cuban Expectations in a New Era

APRIL 7, 2015

Soon after President Obama announced a sweeping overhaul of American policy toward Cuba in December, it became clear that change would unfold slowly. Untangling the web of sanctions the United States imposes on Cuba will take years because many are codified into law. The Cuban government, while publicly welcoming a rapprochement, seems intent on moving cautiously at a pivotal moment when its historically tight grip on Cuban society will inevitably be tested.

Mr. Obama, President Raúl Castro of Cuba and 33 other heads of state in the hemisphere are scheduled to gather at the Seventh Summit of the Americas in Panama City, Panama, this week to take stock of the challenges and opportunities of the thaw in American-Cuban relations. The policy remains a work in progress, but it has already reset Cubans' expectations about their future and their nation's role in a global economy.
