Man may be contributing to warming but we have gone through periods of intense warming and cooling in the past and it was not because too many dinosaurs were driving gas guzzlers. Even if we started living like neanderthals tomorrow, our world would continue to warm. We cannot reverse that.

We are not in complete control of our planet, nor have we ever been. You think we can control the Earth's termperature and climate? I guess this isn't a new idea. At one time people danced for rain, I guess. Which one of these climate scientists, that you trust, suggests that man can control the climate and how?

I do question how catastrophic our impact is. That is what I am interested in. A decade ago Al Gore would have had us all believe that we were teetering on the edge of a disaster. Gore, and the scientists' hands that he put his reputation in, thought they had it right too.

The AR5 isn't online yet as they're meeting this week but the three working group reports are: 

Group 1 is the Physical Science Basis.

Group 2 is Impacts, Assessment and Vunerability

Group 3 is Mitigation of Climate Change

The "Summar(ies) for Policymakers" are pretty easy reading,

which may explain a lot.

I've always wondered about calcium carbonate as a storage unit.

There's about 250x more calcium in the ocean than CO2 in the atmosphere

so it seems like it could work. 

We know it has in the geologic past.

Al Gore had the science pretty much correct.

It depends on what we do. The worst of the IPCC scenarios, RCP8.5 (a high-emission scenario) with no mitigation, lots of new fossil fueled growth are pretty catastrophic, with up to 8 degrees C warming by the end of the century.

And that is the path we are on, that "conservatives" are arguing we should take.
