This happened yesterday, black friday in the poker world. The US is going to hell with the nanny state taking over. http://www.rte.ie/news/2011/0416/poker.html

Just watch. It's all worked out in advance. When the dust settles, the giants of the gambling industry ---Caesar's Palace, the Belagio, places like that--- will get cozy with the government, point out how much tax revenue online gaming will produce, and bingo! that'll be that. It's all an act. (What, you think prohibition ended because the government saw the error of their ways?)

That is the rumor thats going around in the poker world. One of the gov't's pet corporation is about to launch their own site and wants to make sure they have the monopoly on the market.

Bodog is still live, but for how long no one knows. I feel bad for the high rollers who have 150k+ in limbo.

i'm sure they would shut down on-line weed sales; prosecute, and they've [state solicitors] have gone against CraigsList for the sex trade.

if hosting a hold 'em tournament at my house will get me busted, why not them?

While I find playing poker a waste of time, and most forms of gambling utterly idiotic, people should have every right to engage in them.

I guess what the FBI was more concerned about was money laundering and tax collection, which makes the following comment (from reader feedback to the article dingpatch linked to) so appropos:

The government cares more about poker than they do Wall Street or the corruption in the banking industry? They need to get their priorities right.

Yep.
