Not doubting for one minute that a blog from "war_resisters.org" would ever be skewed in favor of their anti-military agenda, but the Congressional Budget Office of the U.S. gov't has a slightly different take on the matter:
Here's an interesting comparison of statistics: Military spending is important to most nations, with each country spending to its own need and ability. Canada spends 6.3 percent of its total yearly budget on military spending. The United States spends 19.3 percent of its budget on military expenses. Mexico uses 3.3 percent of its budget for military spending. . . Health Care Canada spends 17.9 percent of its total yearly budget on health care. The United States spends 19.3 percent of its budget on health care expenses. Mexico uses 11.8 percent of its budget for health care. Source Conclusion? If you hate the idea of your tax dollars going towards the military, move to Mexico, but if you like the idea of your tax dollars going towards medical care, stay here. On the other hand, if education's your thing, go ahead and move to Mexico, because . . . It's your choice. |

AH, but senior. You have a good point. Pero, senior, Underwood didn't speak of government spending. He spoke of taxes. Senior Underwood was absolutely correct when he said 54% of taxes go to the military. To include Social Security and Medicare, one must also include those taxes as well, which would essentially make it appear worse, as those two programs have had funds taken from them to feed the military funding.
