I see a lot of yaks nearshore, but nobody on SUPs like I see when a I visit relatives on the other coast. Anyone doing it here and what SUP are you using?

I have in the goon a cpl times. Using a Sharpe 10'6". Lot of hull chatter, but was not made for fishing. There are fishing designed ones out there, check out Palm Beach Pete on youtube.

I've been tossing the idea around for a while. Not sure I can maintain enough balance to actually fish "from" it. So I will likely strap a milk crate on the nose and just use the board to cover more ground than wading alone..

Larry Chair is what I got, strap it down and use a yak paddle... greater fish fighting stability and you can haul ass.

I used one in SW Florida to Fish for Tarpon in the trap lines off the beach. It was a loaner from a friend of a friend who had a place on the beach and I don't recall who made it. Anyways, it was big, wide, and super stable. I was able to fight a 150# class Tarpon and never felt like I was going to go over. It was specifically designed for fishing. Of course the Gulf is almost always mirror glass in the morning.

I'm pretty sure a 12" Trout could pull me off of mine...

As far as sitting down goes, I like the kayak paddle idea for speed but I really want to be able to sight fish, so standing is part of the deal..

Yeah that is the thing I am trying to decide ...

Some of the fishing yaks you can stand up on, and some of the fishing sups you can sit on too. Heh

I have been wading with the fly rod a bit lately. I'm seeing it as being pretty tough to manage that situation, but I'll give it a shot when the wind quits howling Lol

I did it in the keys.

Caught but didn't land a HUGE tarpon. Fought it for around 3 minutes. No way I could stand while doing it. I sat down. I also was in a channel with a strong current and had dropped an anchor to sight cast it. Was a hell of an experience/rush. I could probably have stood up if it wasn't a monster of a fish.

Just came in from giving it a go.  It is pretty windy out there, so I brought the fly rod lol.

I had no problem getting to where I wanted to fish. Tried casting from my knees, which worked pretty well, but tough on the knees after a while. Also drifted too much with all that wind.

Got off the board in a likely looking spot(saw a few candidates) and made some casts. The board got in the way if I cut it loose walking down wind. Up wind no problem.

Had a nice shot at a Red that looked hard at my fly, but no take....

I am beginning to think a kayak will be the way to go. Won't be that easy getting it on the sand at my beach even if I manage to jerry rig a bike trailer for one.

I've got a BOTE rigged for fishing and have gone out in the Thousand Island area of Cocoa Beach a number of times. The BOTE has a keel nose so you loose the slap of the water. It is a bit cumbersome but you get use to it. Great fun and even the small reds will give you a ride. I learned the hard way to ensure to secure everything in case you flip. This is not mine......sorry for the size

The BOTE looks interesting. They have an inflatable as well that looks decent.... hmm could take it to Nica with me easily with some rods incase it is small/flat.

The Bote Rackham is a great fishing SUP. I have done multiple trips to John Pennycamp in the upper keys...the park rents cheep kayaks and SUPs...BUT, they have a secret selection of Bote boards which are awesome.

I have a c4waterman 10-6 that has a bunch of leash plugs/tie down points around the front and middle of deck. I bungied down a bucket with rod holder to the deck. Works decently in the river.
Can be a bit drifty sometimes so I use a sprinkler donut as an anchor drag.
