Elite racers will paddle clockwise, and the recreational racers will paddle counter clockwise.

Elite course is 4 laps and the recreational course is 1 and 3/4ths laps.

so we need more safety gear in the river than the ocean

Old and Slow can be stylish if you eliminate the jerky part

Sounds like Fun.

Saftey gear?  If you have a leash to your floaty board it is more safety gear than having a PFD strapped to the board.  Ocean you need a PFD but the Surf zone you don't.  Since this is in front of the beach ( surf Zone) PFD not needed.

Again if you are looking for safety wear your leash.  If you are looking for over safety wear a leash and a PFD.  If you are looking to avoid an expensive ticket make your SUP wear a PFD and have a whistle.

Hope it is great weather for it.  Turn 4 and 5??? Will they be in the wave zone?  As in catch a wave then bouy turn and paddle out thru the wave in turn 5?

Race has been moved into the Indian River at Eau Gallie Causeway at the boat ramp due to high winds and surf for this weekend. By Coast Guard rules and regulations, you must have a PFD for the river. I don't like this BS anymore than anyone else. You can strap it onto your board. The race will begin with the Recreational/short course first, and then the elite racers will begin afterwards. Thanks. My number is 321-956-3268

The course has been modified some, but the layout is still basically the same.

Can you post a race course for the river using Google maps so we have an idea on location/turns? Why are the Recreational racers going first? Thanks Jamie

Current NOAA forecast, maybe move it back to the ocean so we don't have to deal with the weekend boaters at the ramp. Friday Night...West winds 5 to 10 knots becoming northwest 5 knots after midnight. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Mostly smooth on the intracoastal waters. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Saturday...Southwest winds 5 knots becoming south 5 to 10 knots in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 feet. A light chop on the intracoastal waters. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Saturday Night...Southwest winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Sunday...West winds 5 knots becoming south in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Sunday Night...Southeast winds 5 knots becoming south after midnight. Seas 2 to 3 feet. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Thanks, George. Now I'm exhausted again! I swear that a manatee held onto my leash the whole 2nd lap!

Boaters were really amazed at the sight of this activity. We let them know what was on before they left the dock. No worries for the future of this event. Just think of all the surfers that would have been chapped at the sight of paddlers in the surf zone. Double edged sword. Flat water is the call from now on.
